Extremely Slow Data Speed

I live in the Dayton, OH area and work on Wright-Patterson AFB. It seems like the second I drive on to base, the data speed is so slow anything requiring data is largely unusable. Since I spend almost everyday on base, it has me considering moving back to AT&T.

Ameristonian, data is something that we all enjoy having use of. We do want you to have the service that you need. Let's work to get to the bottom of this. You mentioned this happens on base. This is not unusual given the equipment found on a base. However, let's ensure we are not missing anything. When did this begin? Do you happen to know if any others are experiencing this on base? Do you recall adding any new apps, games or software to the phone recently?

We moved here back in October and it seem to start when I started working on this particular base. No new apps.

This is the speed test I just completed at my office. This is terrible! It does not get much faster outside either.

I have the exact same problem on base too. My data connection through my phone is useless. Since the majority of my days during the week are on base, this makes Verizon Wireless and extremely poor choice for my cell needs. At home I connect to my WIFI which works fine but that does not help me when I am at work. I opened a ticket awhile back and here is what I received as a reply...

"According to Network Repair Bureau, "We are showing several Network Extenders at this location therefore indoor coverage could be challenging. Device is not hashing to the cell sites close to the address provided in the ticket. Device is hashing to cell sites that are 17 and 18 miles away and we are showing several unable to page device off those cell sites." Due to Network Repair Bureau feedback, this area appears to be a known for reception and signal issues.

Other than using wifi, we currently have no other indoor solutions for data connectivity. Since the Network Repair Bureau has confirmed an actual coverage issue, you do have an option to disconnect the service due to coverage/network issues. If you have questions regarding the disconnect options, please reply to this email."

I replied back to the email about disconnect options but never received any further explanation as to what my options are. I do not have the option of connecting to WIFI at work so I have to rely on my data connection through my phone. Based on the lack of response on my last inquiry from Verizon and my useless data connection I guess I need to switch to another provider such as AT&T or T-Mobile. I have two co-workers that get great data connections through T-Mobile and one through AT&T that is at least usable but not as fast T-Mobile. A new employee just started and he is a Verizon customer as well and his connection is useless too. What really sucks is that I've been a Verizon customer for a very long time and you would think customer loyalty would account for something.

I would think instead of Verizon just saying I have the option to disconnect service, why have they not offered me a signal booster of some sort? With this base being so large and having so many people on it, I would think Verizon would want to make addressing poor reception here more of a priority.

Losing a customer is never something we take lightly, MADEREG. I can assure you we run out every possible way to prevent such a thing from happening. The network reply to your ticket confirmed exactly what you experience on base, and that leaves two options. One is alternate internet on base, which you’ve confirmed you don’t have access to. The other is cancellation of service. You mentioned a signal booster, which we’d love to discuss. Such a device requires electricity and an internet connection to either cable or DSL, with a minimum speed of 10 mbps. Would this be an option for you and other Verizon Wireless users on the base? Alternatively, since this only happens on base, could you and other Verizon Wireless users use hotspot functions from your other comrades while on base to meet your data needs?

I wish the booster was an option. Hotspotting off my co-workers is most likely not an option either since it would mean I would be using up their data allotment.

I just do not understand why other providers can provide better reception on base but Verizon cannot. Does Verizon use frequencies that are much more prone to interference? Apparently it is possible to get adequate reception on base, why can't Verizon solve this issue like the other providers have done? With today's advancements in technology, one would think there should be a viable solution.

With regards to cancelling my service, how would that impact me with paying for my phone through my Verizon bill? What about the money I have already spent all these months "buying" my phone? Since I have the Google Pixel 2 XL, can it be transferred to another provider or does Verizon have my phone locked down to Verizon only?
