Merge Incoming Calls

Is there a proper sequence to follow in order to merge incoming calls?  When I am on my phone and another person calls: I can accept the 2nd incoming call, I can switch between the two calls, however, the merge calls button is greyed out.  Does anyone have the same issue or can provide some guidance?

3-way calling is a fun feature I certainly use so I definitely want to make sure it works for you as well. You would need to start making the call originating from your phone to the first person.
