Two days ago I added the Jetpack 4G LTE AC791L to my account hoping it would solve my home internet service problem. I already have the new unlimited data plan that gives 10gb at 4G, then 3G speeds. I was told by the sales rep (Josh) that the 3G speeds would still be faster than what I was experiencing with my current ISP. First big mistake - I didn't ask what those speeds would be like.
I have been using my S5 as a hotspot for several years and always get great speeds. I rarely exceeded 10gb because I was only using it when my home internet service was misbehaving. Recently that service has almost stopped working and I need a new solution. I have few choices since I am in a rural area. The jetpack seemed like a decent solution. Except that since getting it, and already having used 7.5gb, I reached 10 gb rapidly. And my service essentially dropped from over 6.0 mbps to .60 or slower mbps. Worse than the ISP when it works.
I still can return this device and not be stuck with the 2 year contract. Before I do that I am hoping there is some other answer to getting a speed that is usable - 1.5 mbps would be nice and it is certainly still a major reduction from 6.0 or higher. I feel that I was deceived by the sales rep into what 3G speeds would mean. Typical [Removed] I have come to expect from Verizon Wireless. If there was another cell carrier that had good signal in my location I would switch. But nothing is available. Sad because I live in northern Ohio which is heavily populated but Verizon is the only semi-decent cell service available.
Anyone have any suggestions for getting better speeds on 3G, or other affordable alternatives for internet service in rural areas? Already tried satellite (big joke).
Thanks
