I received the update to froyo 2.2 this morning and I saw the new funtionality Hotspot, someone knows if there is and extra charge to us this funtionality?
Regards
There is $20/month charge (Maybe not $20) but there IS a charge for this feature. It includes 2GB.
Hi budone,
Where did you see this, is it in verizon website?
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/mobilebroadband/?page=products_connect
$20/month for 2 gigs of use
Mobile Broadband connect is NOT the same thing as the 3G Mobile Hotspot. The Mobile Hotspot is a Google feature - not Verizon. I didn't have time to snoop on my husband's phone but when I glanced through it, it looked free to me.
If you already have a Mobile Broadband Connect subscription ($15 per month for this tethering feature), it is no additonal charge. I just tested the feature with my laptop and it worked.
I was under the impresson that it was free for the Droid and the Palm Pre. So why isn't it free for the Incredible owners?
(VZW care to comment?)
The new 3G Mobile Hotspot Pricing includes Mobile Broadband Connect. Verizon Wireless is offering new 3G Mobile Hotspot pricing for 3G Smartphone capable devices. The new feature will include 2GB of data for 3G Mobile Hotspot and/or Mobile Broadband Connect.
Feature Eligibility:
Does this $20 2 gig feature cap your usage at 2gig? So you would go from unlimited to 2 gig?
My problem with this is that unlike the VZ Navigator application, there is nothing when you check that box to enable the 3g Mobile hotspot that definitely says, "by using this app, you will be charged $20 a month, please click accept or decline." Sure I see the popup about needing the "3G mobile Hotspot feature from Verizon Wireless to use this service," but it still lets you start it fine so maybe people think it comes with the phone. There really needs to be some kind of warning that by using this you will be charged $20 a month so people aren't surprised when they get their bill.
Did no one take a look at the images that I posted? It clearly states you need to call to have the feature enabled. It won't connect you at all if you don't have the service on your account. You'll just get that page whenever you attempt to use the hotspot from the device.
OOOOOOHHHHHHHHH....lol. i looked at your pics, but thought you just got those drom vzn's site. it allowed me to go all the way to where i was setting up the network info so i assumed it was allowing me to use it. the little 3g hot spot icon even popped up in my status bar. so your pics are where the app takes you after setting up a device, but before it will actually connect it? is that what you're saying?
Correct, I enabled the 3G hotspot on my phone, went on my iPod, connected to the Wi-Fi point, opened up Safari and got directed to that page when I tried to browse to a site. Wouldn't let me go anywhere else.
sorry i coudn't see your pics from my work computer, the images were blocked.
I called Verizon today and they did look it up for me. Turning on the 3G Mobil HotSpot feature on the phone will not charge you more money. As long as you have a data package you will be just fine!!! I think I will be canceling my cable internet provider now. The drawback that it is a little slower than using my Wireless N but saving my an extra $50 a month cant beat it. I havent done any gaming online with it but im sure it will hold up just fine. I say its fast as DSL if not a little more.
gamino...yes it will. that guy didn't know what he was talking about. see the images on the previous page of this thread. julio tested it. he set up a device via the 3ghotspot and it does not allow you to leave the page he shows in the images without agreeing to add the subscription.

What a surprise, another Verizon employee who doesn't know their product or their services. Do you need to call the CEO in order to get a straight answer from this place?
Only the Palm Pre and Pixi has free hotspot service. But it is also capped at 2GB before incurring additional charges.
This feature is not free. It's $20/month on top of your $30 unlimited data plan, and you have a 2GB cap on your 3G Hotspot.
I tried connecting it last night, and I was able to access google.com from my iPod; however, any page I tried to visit after that it would redirect me to a website saying to call Verizon to add that feature.
I think it would only be fair that we get at least a 500MB free every month. That's enough to use when you really need to, but not a lot to use as your main connection at home. It's understandable that there has to be cap, otherwise people will abuse it and in the end, we'll be the ones hurt as a result with higher data prices and lower bandwidth.
i would go for that. give us a real small cap for free so you could use it in a pinch (since the capability is there). but i really don't have a problem with them charging for it. like i said before, if they were to just give it to us, it would have to crush the network right?
The application is free the service is not! It will cost you $20 per month to use as a moble hot spot or $15 per month if you teether it to you computer via usb. When you connect to the 3g mobile hot spot the first time the verizon page will come up and offer you a subscription.
i saw it when i was on a nyc bus and tried to use it!!!
why ask the question if you don't believe the answer: $20.00
I have an HTC Droid Incredible with an upgraded firmware of 2.2. My question is if the 3g Mobile Hotspot is free for my phone. I have an unlimited data plan and certainly that should be applied with this service right? Regards.

For your phone yes, but for something else attacked whether wirelessly or wired. If you want to argue semantics like people do.
YOU do have unlimited internet you can use as much as you want. Even if there is limits to how it is to be used it's still unlimited data.
I could have sworn Verizon went to court about this and they won, because their data plans are still the same...
attached not attacked >.< sorry
If you dont like paying extra for using your phone to transmit data from another device, you might want to read what Google and Verizon are trying to get the FCC to agree to.
http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/09/fcc-delays-net-neutrality-over-google-verizon-proposal/
Basically, the arguement is that they can take the little pieces of internet content that they deem expensive to deliver or highly desired and deliver them at tiered costs or in-house alternatives (sound like a familiar business strategy?). Their proposal also includes an exception for wireless services from Net Neutrality rules.
I moved my whole company from ATT because the service sucked and the ATT store employees just outright lied to us. After being with verizon, it feels like the Devil just passed us from his left hand to his right one.
