My tablet shuts down without warning while using it.
Mine has done the same thing from time to time. Annoying and frustrating.
SOmetimes I figure it's because I have a few things too many open and the RAM just maxes out. Other times I'm simply reading on the Kindle app with nothing else going on. It simply shuts off, and I have to reboot.
I haven't yet figured out why it does this or how to "fix" it; I just take a deep breath and restart it. I know that doesn't help you, just know you are not alone.
Thanks. I was not sure if it was only myself or others had the same issue.
Thanks for the "vote of support", so-to-speak. My Ellipsis 10 began doing
it once in a blue moon; scrolling, opening an app, using the volume; but
now it's happening very frequently. In addition, it'll shut off while
restarting! And when that occurs, it often restarts by optimizing my 150
apps which takes about 20 minutes. I've tried using AVG to clear the cache
and then I manually restarted but to no avail.
Maybe we'll get it figured out before I use mine to kill flies with.
That's exactly what mine is doing.
Jack3113,
Oh gosh! I regret that your tablet keeps shutting off at random. This is definitely not the experience that we want to hear about. I appreciate the information that you’ve provided so far. I’m here to help make sure we resolve this once & for all. Are you using the provided functioning charger / cable in a known working outlet? Do you know if there is any soft of physical or liquid damage?

I'm using the original OE charger and there is no physical or
moisture-related damage. Other Ellipsis owners are having the same
problem. It shuts down randomly. I could be scrolling, raising or lowering
the volume, opening an app... anything. Also, sometimes when I restart it
it'll shut down during boot up and subsequent restart often results in the
message "optimizing applications" which can take 15-20 minutes before it's
usable again.

Its only 2 weeks old. No damage at all. I did a soft reboot and its working
fine at the moment.

After additional scrutiny, it appears my tablet will work fine while above 65% charge. Shortly after it drops below that (or almost immediately), it will begin to act up to the point of being near-useless due to the indiscriminate shutdowns.
My husband and I are having the same problem with our tablets. They just randomly shut down, sometimes have to restart 4 or 5 times and also has to "optimize 150 apps" which in turn kills the battery.
I call Verizon and was told it was some of the apps I had downloaded and they were constantly running in the background, so I deleted said apps and it still does it. Then I was told "you get what you pay for" and that I needed to update to a more expensive tablet if I wanted better performance.
No, I want the one I bought to do what I bought it for, to play games and watch Netflix without shutting down every 5 minutes.
Had same problem sent it in twice just got it back today
The first time they reloaded the main software, lasted a few weeks started again
The last time they replaced the mother board ,so far so good
We understand your concern, ELIWEL64. We want you to have a fully working tablet. What kind of tablets do you have? When did the issues start? Is the device on the most recent software available?

This is frustrating, had my tablet less than a month. Even did a factory reset and skipped installing all apps, and it still shuts off randomly. If I try to stream anything like a video or movie from nexfix, YouTube Facebook it will definitely shut off in about 30 seconds from starting it. No damage, using the correct charger confirmed the OS is up to date. Tried it in safe mode can't do anything so it will stay on, but what is the point in having a tablet if I can't use it?! This is obviously not a one off app problem this is an issue with either the hardware or the OS.
Having a tablet act up like this when you’ve had it less than a month is super frustrating. We appreciate the troubleshooting you’ve done. Help has now arrived. I’ve sent you a private message so that we can go over the next steps.

Include me. I also have (and have posted about) this problem. I find it
hard to believe with so many folks experiencing this problem that Verizon
hasn't offered more support.
Rick
My tablet does the same thing. If the battery gets around 45% it starts to just shut off. When I turn it back on it says the apps are optimizing (10-15 minutes). I sent it in for service and it was sent back the same day saying there was nothing wrong (to be fair I believe the response was that it didn't duplicate the problem or something to that effect). Same problem continues and I plug the charger in and it will boot. And yes, OEM charger and no, no water damage or anything like that. This thread seems to show a particular pattern, don't you think?
@Tora06 Having a good working tablet is important. Let's take a closer look to see what's going on. When did this begin? Have you made any changes to your tablet? Please share details so we can help.

I have not made any changes except to delete apps on the advice of a sales
person at Verizon. I have tried safe mode but it only deactivates all the
apps that I use when it shuts down so that was useless. I'm using the
charger that came with it and it has no damage. My husband's tablet does
the same thing and from what I'm seeing on this thread this is an issue
with most all of these tablets. The issue began a month or so ago, as long
as it's plugged in or the battery is above 65% it works fine.

I started having the issue roughly one month after getting the tablet. I have not made any changes to the tablet or software other than the update that was available. The tablet just shut down about 20 minutes ago at 45% battery and i tried to restart but it starting optimizing the apps and after waiting for that process to complete the tablet shut down again. I put the charger on and restarted and it started optimizing again and after completing the process with the charger on the tablet booted up. I am typing this response on the tablet with the charger. I have reset the tablet, I have started it in safe mode all with your tech support and it does the same thing again and again. I sent the tablet in for repair and it was sent back on the same day with a note saying it didn't show problems for your tech people.
This is terribly annoying.
Mine is barely 2 month old and same issues. I have to send it in for Verizon to see if they can fix it but I know how these things work. I'm not going to keep replacing this not even very impressive tablet every month because Verizon doesn't care if we have defective product. I'm at a point where I'd be saving myself stress by just filing a dispute against Verizon. I might as well bring up the turbo 2 I had to just pay off early because warranty replacements were driving me up a wall.
With this many people having this issue I have no faith in this product and just don't want it. Return it if you can now, if not be prepared to either deal with paying for a device and line that doesn't work or replacing it every few months.
I can't even get it to update the built in apps without it shutting off and telling me it's optimizing the apps. Using it for an hour then having it crash. Then perform a factory data reset and repeat. Hopefully it gets recalled or they give us an option to settle and terminate it early without fees. Doubtful but I'd do it.
Mine does the same thing. I found that it I let it get below 60-70% charged, it does it more often than not. If I leave it plugged in, it's fine. However, what is the point of having a tablet if you have to leave it plugged in? Verizon told me once that they would replace it, but they sent me an empty box for repairs instead of a replacement. I can't wait until my contract is up so I can quit paying for this piece of junk. FYI it does the same thing that everyone else has described: turning off multiple times and then optimizing for 20+ minutes. Also, as soon as I unplug it, it starts giving me alerts that my battery has 1% remaining when it is clearly 100% charged.
Thank you everyone in this community thread for providing us with your personalized experiences with this issue and the Ellipsis 10. We will be forwarding this information over to our device team for further review.
This is the worst tablet ever. I purchased it to use in my squad car and in the ambulance, but after the first 30 days this thing will not ever boot up consistently. When turning it on it is like playing Russian Roulette as to whether it will even turn on all the way. If it does load up all the way it is always a game to see how long it stays on before it shuts itself off. I have tried safe mode and factory reset and it still does it. This is a very poor device to have been sold by Verizon under a plan.
We're very sorry to hear about this trouble, Emsrider. We know it can be disappointing when your device doesn't work. We certainly appreciate you completing the troubleshooting steps that you have. Let's keep working towards getting you up and running. Is your device damaged in any way? Have you had an opportunity to talk to tech support about warranty or other replacement options?
It is not damaged in anyway. Have not talked to tech support yet, due to
the fact the steps are always the same to troubleshoot figured I would do
those steps first.

Me to!!!
I am having the same issue!!!! Very frustrated!!!!
I'll add my hat to the group of people that have the power off issue. In my case, I'm going to annoy the support person because, no, I don't use the supplied charger, I use a handful of different USB chargers that work perfectly fine with every other device we own (quite a few) and the tablet will charge to 100%. The charging is not the problem. When the tablet gets down into the 60% range of battery is typically when this starts (hmmm, seem to recall multiple people talking about that) but have found that once it gets below 60% it gets more stable again but will randomly shut down, just less likely. As to damage, none visible, but I've owned this tablet for over 18 months, so its hard to say for sure.
As to starting in safe mode, I'd have to agree with all of the others, its kind of pointless, since you can't run any useful apps in that mode to test things. I have noticed that if I'm doing something that's more intensive, such as playing a graphically heavy game, it has a significantly higher chance of shutting down.
So, basically, I'm guessing that support will either ignore everything I've typed and ask if I use the factory charger and if there's any damage, or they will say that I absolutely, positively must use the factory charger, and since I'm not, that's the problem. But, I thought I'd add my 2 cents that its also happening on my tablet and has for a while now and if they'd just resolve this power issue and the black box issues that it looks like others are having (which I also have) I'd actually like my tablet a lot.
We understand your concern and want this to be resolved. Troubleshooting is what helps us determine what is causing the issue with your tablet, helps us understand how to stop it, and helps us prevent it from happening again. Safe Mode might seem like it does nothing, but if your tablet does not shut down while in Safe Mode, an application could be causing the issue. Have you completed all troubleshooting steps so far? Since all of this began, have you tried a Factory Reset?
Here's what I can tell you, and this is from a developer perspective, as well as a user perspective. I have booted into safe mode, and since I can't use anything, have not been able to use the tablet long enough to determine if that helps or not. The problem typically manifests itself while using it, not just staring at it. I have not done a factory reset, as I don't think it will help, particularly based on what everyone else is saying here on this thread.
However, here are some bits that should be more helpful. First, I've noticed that it happens most often when the battery power is between 60-69%, and I'm positive of this, I see the battery drop to 69% and I know that soon, no matter what I'm doing on the tablet, it will soon power off. Interestingly, if I can get it to stay on until it hits 59% then its good again until it gets down below 50%. Whatever the problem is, its tied to the battery level, unless it just happens to be a pure coincidence. Second, it seems that doing anything that would be a stress on the power, a graphic intensive game or something with lots of computing power, brings it on quicker. Finally, based on the fact that there's somewhere around 15 people on this thread all with the same issue, I really doubt its a particular application that is causing the problem, I suspect its something in the base image, like a driver or a system library. I am willing to help with what I can, but since there are numerous people who have already done the steps that you keep repeating (namely factory reset and safe mode) and have not been able to point to anything, lets move past that and look at something else.
ROBSCH81, we appreciate you giving safe mode a try to see if the behavior repeats when the battery level drops within that range. Since it's not occurring in safe mode, let's continue with some additional troubleshooting. Can you please go into Settings>Battery and press on the 3 dots to get to the Battery Saver Mode. Once in that setting, please turn it on and let us know if the behavior is still present once the battery power drops below 69%.

I am having the same issues with my new Ellipsis. Randomly restarts, freezes, black boxes over sign in boxes, flashing background. Using original charger. Problems started from day one. Inferior product; disappointing that Verizon would put their name on this piece of junk. Have been a customer of Verizon's for a decade, but may be time for a switch.
We all are experiencing this same problem. My question is this- will
Verizon stand by this tablet and repair/replace this product or are we
going to have to continue having a terrible experience and not even be able
to depend on this product?
Same problem here!!!!!
Shuts down randomly after the battery get to around 67%. I have jumped threw all the hoops suggested by Verizon Tech and I'm not resetting it anymore! The only apps on the tablet were any apps on after factory reset.
I got my first ellipsis 10 about a year and a half ago and shortly after it started shutting down for no reason. after many hours of my time searching for answers online, I finally just gave up and decided to use it for games around the house for about 6 months (was purchased to help with work). Then, one day I decided that it just wasn't right for me to be paying for this thing and it is broken so, I used my insurance to get a replacement. Not sure about what was going on with this terrible tablet, I assumed it was just defective so, I got another one. In a matter of weeks, the replaced tablet and the new tablet was doing the same thing. So here I am with 2 of these terrible tablets which I'm still paying monthly for ( with 4 and 15 months to go) and they are still worthless. Now, I see that many others are having the same issue and its a shame that Verizon doesn't make things right and offer free replacements of different tablets until they figure out what the issue is. But, I guess business is business.
rpitre,
We understand that it's frustrating to have devices that are not working properly. The option we have is to honor the warranty and have the tablet repaired or replaced by our warehouse team. I am having the same problem with the Ellipsis 10. It is extremely frustrating. Mine even restarts when plugged in with the original chargers. It restarts at least 5 -6 times a day. There is no damage of any kind. It is pretty much like new because I can't really use it for much.
I’m sure that much restarting is quite annoying, LAURAMC3711. It’s good to see you’ve been taking care of your tablet and I want to make sure we get it to stop causing you so much frustration. Can you tell me a bit more about your specific experience, such as if you notice this happening after anything in particular is accessed on your tablet or that it started after something updated? If you use the steps at https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-200581/ to place your tablet in Safe Mode, does it remain powered on? Do you also see any messages on your tablet when it restarts?

VW knows about this and has known about this issue but they keep acting like its the first they heard of the defect so, your not going to get any help. You may get a replacement (on your dime) but it will soon do the same thing. I have 2 so it could be worse
