Why wrong tower being used

When I would make a phone call from my work, it would show on my bill that the call originated from a town over an hour away. Why would it ping that tower when there are other towers that would be closer? When I leave work it would use a tower that is in the city where I was. & now when I make a call from work it now shows the call being originated from the same city I actually work.

Why shouldnt it? Our phones are designed to seek the ’path of least resistance’. That may mean it’s a higher capacity tower, less congestion, no line of sight obstructions. My phone connects to a tower in the next state as I’m within a mile of state line.

In one location there are several towers, but it’s a canyon, so my phone connects to a tower on a hill, then rapidly changes towers through the canyon to keep service.

JESHIL06, the phone will connect of the tower that will provide the best connection at that time. It might not always be the closest tower, but it will be the strongest connection.
