My friends who have Verizon are able to send and receive iMessages while making phone calls and are NOT connected to WiFi, but I am
not able to. How can I fix this so I can send/receive while on calls?

To ensure that I avoid any assumptions, please shed light on the users you are attempting to use the services simultaneously with. The reason why I ask is that the person you're calling has to be using an HD Voice-capable phone at the time of the call.
