My family and I are going to Rio and we tried our sim cards from there and the phone says SIM not supported. When did Verizon begin locking phones and what can I do about it??
They don't lock phones. Maybe your phones are not compatible with that particular service.
Yes they do. Phones are locked for 24 hours after activation. Just spoke with tech support. So, now, after you purchase a new device it must be active for 24 hours before it will be unlocked. Anyways...times change, so hopefully this helps everyone.
I doubt the just bought their phone less than 24 hours before inserting the ISMs. Also of course those SIMs won't work they're not in Rio yet. Phones are locked at the the store until purchase to prevent theft.
Exactly. Lol. That's what I said above. If I could attach the chat transcript I would. Phones are now locked for 24 hours after purchase. They must have an active Verizon sim in it for 24 hours after purchase, then they are unlocked as usual, from that point on.
We certainly want to make sure that you can use your phone, no matter which carrier you use while traveling, hmdouglas417. You brought up a great point about 4G phones being locked for 24 hours after the initial activation on our network. Also, another thing to keep in mind is that there are a few different SIM card types such as nano sim, micro sim and standard sim cards. You may need to check with the foreign carrier to ensure that they provided you the right sim. The last consideration is the type of phone you are trying to use overseas. Certain phones may not have the right internal hardware to support networks overseas. What are the makes and models of the phones being used overseas?
