My dad was just given a Samsung Omnia (not Omnia II) to replace his old HTC XV6700. He never had a data plan before, and didn't want one now. He said so at the store when replacing it, and they said fine. When he got his bill, voila - they had added a data plan! Over the phone, Verizon now tells him that smartphones require a data plan. Why would that be? Why can't he use this phone like he did before with his HTC XV6700 without going on-line? Is this true or does he need to call some special number at Verizon to get this taken care of? Anyone know if it's really not possible to have an Omnia phone work as a phone and PDA but not go on-line and not pay for data?
thanks!
Mike
