Iphone 8 wont receive text/calls after he reaches his data limit. Why is this?

My son upgraded from a Galaxy 7 to an Iphone 8 at Christmas time. He regularly hits his monthly data allowance. When this happens, he is not able to send/receive texts or imessages or calls unless on wi-fi. Is there a setting that needs to be changed because of the phone swap? He never had this issue with the Galaxy phone?

Hi awilli41, it seems that the account may have a data usage restriction in place so as not to receive overage charges when reaching that limit? Usually Verizon sends a text message when that is about to happen, and bills accordingly. Perhaps this link provides some info with My Verizon for Desktop and iOS

awilli41, I am sure your son was excited to get a new iPhone for Christmas. I know my children certainly were. Salisbury made an excellent recommendation to check if data limits were in place. Have you had a chance to check that out? Has your plan changed? If so what was it changed to?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, he has data limits in place, but no call or text restrictions. I didn't realize that data restrictions would limit text & calling also. We have met this issue a couple of times since he activated the phone & thought maybe a setting in the Iphone needed to be changed.

Hi awilli, there is no setting on the iPhone that will over ride the carrier Verizon. At some point restrictions were placed on the account. I don't know how controlling that they are? But they certainly are enough to stop some if not all of the service. The App My Verizon on the iPhone can give the ability to work with those. Verizon right now it giving some of the best prices of all carriers. It's unreal how good their prices are for what they offer. I'd suggest calling or going online to put a plan in place that works well.
