Port VZW phone# to new VZW phone line

I recently purchased two samsung Note 9 phones. Had to add a new line. I was told that my wife could port her phone number over to the new line after she cancels her old month-to-month VZW acct. After we received the phones, they are now telling me that VZW can not port phone numbers from VZW to VZW. My wife had her number for over 20 years.

That's correct, no carrier can do that. 'Porting a phone number' means to move that number from one service provider to a different service provider.

They can transfer phone numbers from one account to another within the same provider though. You can assume the liability of an phone number on an account in your wife's name to add it as an additional line to your account, and then activate the new note 9 on that number, or keep her old account open with the former number and activate the Note 9 on it.

Cancelling the old account however would cause her to lose her former number.

You don't port numbers over on the same carrier. You can just bring her line over to you account. However the new line you just created for the BOGO has to remain active for 24 months even if you switch devices.

Because that isn't a port. Ports are from other carriers or VZW to other carriers. Moving from VZW to VZW just adds a line. Whoever told you it can replace the line like a port should find another job.

They might already be on the same account if they did a BOGO purchase.

Your cheapest option is to cancel the new line and except you have to pay off the phone.

I suggest watching a Best Buy for deals (next time around). Best Buy often has trade in deals or sales which take a couple hundred or more off purchase cost up front.

I bought my galaxy S9 for $400 off. $100 preorder and $300 trade in on S7.

ReggieFD, I apologize for any misinformation and do want your wife to keep her original 20-year number. I regret to see this has been an unpleasant upgrade experience. I'll be glad to clear up the details regarding the upgrade promotion. Assuming liability of your wife's line would not be considered a new line of service and cannot simply replace the new line you added for the BOGO Galaxy Note 9 offer. In any event, transferring an existing Verizon Wireless number is not considered a new line of service. A Transfer of Service would only add a 3rd line to your existing account. If you're still within the 14 Day Worry Free Guarantee (initial purchase period), you may always return the second Galaxy Note 9 and get a refund for the purchase/cancel out the new line.

You may reference the link below under "Buy One, Get One Promotions (BOGO)" to view the existing requirements associated with the promotion. Question #4 explains that both lines must remain active to qualify for the free Galaxy Note 9.
