Android Software Installer Problem

This morning I woke up and could not breath from my asthma. I grabbed my phone to call emergency service and my screen had the Android Installer on it. The installer would not let me get to the phone dialer to make a call. I did not have my glasses within reach to see how to cancel the installer and get to the phone dialer and I panicked. I used to be able to bypass the installer. Question is what could I have done to bypass the installer to make a call to Emergency Services?

We want to make sure your phone is available at all times, especially in an emergency. There is not always a way to cancel the software unless there is a cancel button. Depending on what the software entails, you may not be able to cancel without causing issues with the phone. Most of the time you may have the option to delay the software or schedule it when you will not need the phone immediately. What phone model are you using?

you've apparently installed the installer for specific apps/programs, live with it or un-install the app.

No, it is the stock installer.

Thank you for contacting me. The installer wants to install the latest

security update and I will install it in a few days after I review to see

if people have any problems with the update. There was no way to cancel the

installation, only postpone it to later. However, I could not see without

my glasses to reschedule the update. In the past, I could get out of the

installer to make a call. This time no. It seems to me that a user should

be able to get out of the installer quickly in an emergency. I have a Note

I regret the inconvenience this caused. We appreciate your feedback regarding this concern as well. What steps did you take in the past to bypass the installer?

you could've mentioned that a security update was the issue in your op, i'd have given a different reply.

For past Android OS updates I would get the same update screen that I

received this last time. However, to bypass the install screen, I would

press the BACK button and that screen would go away and I could use the

phone. It did not work this time, when I really needed it to work. Scary.
