Black Friday and iPhone X - BIG FAIL!!!!!!!!

I am beyond frustrated and angry with Verizon right now!!! I could not see another place to voice my frustration, so am doing it here!!!! I have been a Verizon customer for many many years and in facet Verizon is the only carrier I have ever used! I feel Verizon took advantage of us and had false advertising in this last Black Friday ad and specials!!! Verizon advertised the iPhone X for $400 off and NO trade-in!!!! NO WHERE in the ad did it say stock was limited!!! It only said you needed to purchase by Friday. I was in a place where I was not able to go online, and by the time I got to a place to go online, it said they were out of stock!!!! I drove to 3 different Verizon stores and all stores were out of them as well, and said they had been out since about noon!!! I tried calling in to see if there was going to be a rain check for those of us who couldn't get them and waited on hold for 40 minutes before my call was dropped and I had to start over!!! I tried again and finally got through only to be told I was out of luck and the phones were gone and could not be reordered!!!!

I feel it was very poor business on the part of Verizon to advertise a phone for such a good deal that was obviously in limited supply and not stare somewhere in the ad that it was only available until sold out!!! I think a company as big as Verizon failed miserably this time!!! NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!!!!!!!!!!

There were other phone models that were available under the same promotion. Models that are newer than the last year's iPhone. Since Apple released a new model, you should have known unsold inventory of the previous model would be limited and those retailers would have incentive to unload that stock.

I’ve never seen a Black Friday sale that wasn’t limited to available stock, no rain checks, first come first served. You being disappointed by this is not false advertising.

I was actually in the store, order placed and credit card in hand to pay for the taxes - error in the submission and then they were apparently GONE... across the country! Spent hours on hold trying to resolve, wait time of 1 hour + only to be disconnect and transferred. What a joke. When I got to my Verizon account now it says I have an order placed but Verizon says no - in the 5+ calls I've had with them today as well as the store. What a joke! This is for 3 lines, of which we are all on the unlimited plan, we've been customers for over 10 years. What a joke! So disappointing. Difference of $1200 - and the X is still available today! Discontinued is discontinued, how do you suddenly have more to sell today?

It is a discontinued phone, I can see when it's gone it's gone but since they are again selling today they obviously weren't sold out.

And just why should I have known the inventory was limited??? They are still selling the iPhone 8 and 7 and even 6!!!!! Why would I think this particular phone wouldl "go away"!!!!

Same frustration. Logged into Verizon account Friday afternoon to upgrade to iPhone X at the $400 off sale price and all options of the X were greyed out. Opened a help chat to inquire whether I could still purchase the phone that day at the advertised sale price and have it shipped when it was back in stock. I was told the phone had sold out by around midnight on Thursday and that I could not order one on Friday for future delivery because Apple was no longer producing the X so they wouldn't be getting any more. So I found it very surprising when I checked the Verizon website this morning and see the iPhone X suddenly available for sale again (but not at the same sale price), saying ships by 1-18-19. Sure seems like Verizon elected to end the Black Friday sale on Thursday night. False advertising.

Does Verizon make iPhones? No. Does Verizon have the ability to stop other customers from ordering just so you can? No.

It's a sale. It's how every sale with limited stock is treated. How is that hard to understand?

How do you not get Black Friday?

There are limited goods at deep discount, when they sell those, the deal is over. Whether or not there are a few hundred in a warehouse to replenish the next day does not matter.

Likewise, I actually ordered mine on Thanksgiving, 2 phone upgrades and an Apple watch. I have a receipt that was printed with order numbers for both the upgrades and watches. However, only the Apple watch shipped and there is no evidence an order ever existed for my upgrades, of course except to the hardcopy printout I printed when I received the confirmation and order numbers.

Hey, but if they process your order and give you an order confirmation with order numbers? Also, there is a lot of information about the iPhone X being discontinued. However, that is false. Apple has ramped up production of the original iPhone X as the newer iPhones are not selling. There has been regulator actions taken on businesses that falsely promote a price and then don't have sufficient inventory. Verizon has data analytics that support their entire operation. They know what the demand is going to be for each and every phone on promotion. Your example for mom and pop shops doesn't hold water.

Facts:

1. The iPhone X production was resumed on 11/21/18. So this sale was not to eliminate or clearance out an underselling phone. Quite the contrary - numerous media outlets report that the X production was restarted due to lagging sales of the other Xx models and the still brisk sales of the X. 2. No where on the advertisement did it mention "limited to stock on hand/limited quantities" or anything of the sort, as admittedly is normal with most Black Friday ads and enticements. This argument that we "should have known" doesn't hold water - if it ain't written down, it doesn't mean anything. If you think that to the contrary, try it the next time you go to buy a car and the salesman says he will throw something in on the deal but doesn't put it in the sales contract or give you a due bill...

3. If #2 above is false, why were reps taking orders IN COMPANY STORES for the phone for a while after stock-in-hand was depleted?

4. To compound #3, why were reps IN COMPANY STORES giving shipping dates out into January after they ran out of stock-in-hand? I heard this personally at the second store I visited that day, because the rep wanted me to order then (darn it that I didn't do it right there and then!).

5. If they were truly completely stripped to the bare walls in the warehouse for these phones, and absolutely no more were being made anywhere, why are they now "on backorder" and shipping dates being given?

6. More importantly, there was no "replacement" offer and still is not one in sight. Verizon has me as a customer already- you can't tell me why they would have turned away someone who was looking to switch, or at least offer them a comparable deal to get those precious "new lines"...yeah, I know, they treat their existing customers like door mats, but to boldly do everything but tell me to take a hike in the middle of the retail store is insane.

Frankly, I never understood in this industry why repeat business is worse than new business. And I used to be in this industry.

Same here, Ordered online, received confirmation of order to be pick up within three days after the 23rd of Nov...which would mean the latest would be the 25th of Nov...got email saying order had been cancelled.Verizon says that 3 days means 72 hours from order TIME...BS! and...now they are out of the Apple X..

If this is the case, I find it odd it is a model Apple does not even offer for sale on their own website...

Possibly those articles are for the iPhone XR, XS & XS Max. Apple no longer sells the iPhone X.

The articles eluded to mention that Apple has restarted production of the X to fulfill a contractual agreement with Samsung to purchase a certain number of displays. The articles also mention that the phones are not being made for the US market. I did see something about Japan. If the X is going to be made available in the US, I haven't seen it mentioned online.

The X was on the VZ site and was interestingly enough taken off of the site in the last two hours. Funny how I was able to chat with a rep this evening about purchasing one but now they are off their site. No two ways about it - this whole thing reeks...

dexman the whole "Japan market" thing makes no sense either. They are trying to bump up their next-gen Xx phones by cutting their pricing, but yet they will restart production on the "old X" for that same market at a price point higher than the Xr??? Really? That's like Ford restarting production on the Taurus from two years ago when their lots are already full of newer models, just because they have a glut of engines and transmissions that will fit only the two year old model. If this makes no sense to you, then I must be on the right boat...Also, restarting production ain't cheap. They must be needing to use up an awful lot of OLED's...no doubt that some/most of them will be coming over to the always phone hungry American market, especially since the typical Japanese consumer changes phones most every year....

I order 4 iphone Xs early Thursday morning. The package was scheduled for delivery today but fedex said shipping was refused and returning back to the shipper. They never came, never left a note and now I will never get those phones. I am so mad at verizon and Fedex right now, I could scream. I am seriously considering switching back to At&t now.

I'm going to second this frustration. The site said the deal was good till the end of the day without mentioning limited quantities. My family and I went out to check out the phone (at another retailer) to see if it fit our needs. Got home and found the deal was still posted but not available and I would have been happy for it to take a month to deliver. At the end of the day I don't need to upgrade and may likely switch carriers if another vendor has a better deal.

You stated your My Verizon account shows you have an order. When you received the error message at the store, were you provided the order number and location code for your order? Have you been able to reach Customer Service since posting your concern here? We will need to access your account to see if we are able to view the order you placed at the store. Please keep in mind that if the order did not go through, we would not be able to offer the Black Friday promotion. If you place a new order, you would only be able to take advantage of the current pricing.

I am also disappointed with this promo. I had an online confirmation for two XR upgrades (all that was left very early on, space gray 64gb). Instead of contacting me, a verizon rep cancelled that order and replaced the order for full price phones. For 37.49 a phone per month (full price) I can get a much better option. I called customer service. They filled out "a form" but said the chances were very unlikely that I would receive the promo. I refused the phone shipment as I was informed there would be a $100 stocking fee if I returned the phones. I have been a customer 10+ years. This was really disappointing. I felt the old "bait and switch" especially since a new order was entered without the promo. I definitely don't feel like a valued customer. I gave you a chance to fix it and do the right thing. It was an easy fix to honor my order.

Was on website around 11am on Black Friday. All 4 models of iPhone X were available (space grey had ship of Dec 12 and Silver was in January). Was not able to order at the time and when I returned at 2pm all the models were gone. Wife checked store. Said they were sold out 8am and said they aren't making it anymore. They are gone. Surprise. Went on VZ website today and all 4 models are available at full price (except for lame $100 trade in promo). Funny that I can order the space grey in 64 or 256 right now and have it delivered 2 days from now but if I did manage to get last Friday it wouldn't have shipped till later. Silver is available but says Jan 18. Chatted with an online rep and they didn't even know they were available. Made me send her the link to VZ page. I did and she said ' oh I see it now, that's wierd'. She said she was told they were out and acknowledged that a lot of people weren't able to take advantage of the promotion b/c they sold out. Its very obvious there were caps put on how many they wanted to sell at the discounted price or they wouldn't be available now. Rep just tried to dismiss it and said I could take advantage of the current $100 trade in offer and I said that was horrible and said I might just have to switch my 4 lines to a different carrier and she said she didn't want that. Said she could waive the $30 activation fee for each line. I sad that was funny and told her I was done and exited chat. Its obvious based on the outcry that Verizon customer's feel they were wronged, what puts it over the top for me is that they pull something like this and then don't give you the time of day afterward.

I don’t know where you got that from. I had an issue with trying to order an 4 iPhone X on Black Friday and they were all sold out and we were told they were no longer making them and Verizon sold out. Yesterday I was on the website and it was available and I received an email today from Verizon for the same phone. Just adding to everyone else’s frustration on VZ handling of the $400 off discount. There are a lot of angry people I think that are going to be taking advantage of AT&T’s offer right now of buy one iPhone get 2nd for $700 off, probably in response to VZ’s failure.

DAVFAI53, these were great deals, and they went fast. I'm sorry to hear that you were not able to get the iPhone X devices that you wanted. I know this can be frustrating, but we'd never want to see you go over this. The promotion was as supplies lasted. There are a number of factors that can affect inventory, and make phones available now.

We got there Friday afternoon and my rep was able to order me one. I noticed today when I got it that is was fully price, but he assured me the $400 off would come in the form of monthly credits

The exact cost details will be listed on the agreement that you signed. If you didn't request a paper copy from the rep, you can obtain it by signing into your VZW account.

Hello, I agree one would not think this would happen, but it did. I have order confirmation of the XR promo for two upgrades. I received another email from Verizon cancelling the promo order and redoing it for full price phones a couple days later. I called Verizon and the only help I received was "we will fill out a form" which will "probably be denied anyway". I have all the emails of my first order and the 2nd one I did not place. It's one thing to miss the promo, another to get order confirmation. But, to change it to full price, then tell me if the form doesn't go through I will be charged a total of $100 restocking fees is tough to take.

Verizon totally botched this whole deal. There was no mention of limited stock for this promotion. I tried to place an order and an additional line and a new iPhone, and it was telling me that there WERE some in stock at local stores, so I grabbed one. Then a page or two later, it tells me that no, the item is not available after all. What the...

So Verizon missed out. They could have had me on the hook for a second line, and I would have stayed with them for years. Instead, I'm just waiting for AT&T to come up with a sweetheart deal that I can't refuse, so I can say sayonara to scuzzy business practices.
