seeking advice on upgrading from 6620L to 8800 Jet pack

I am on the prepaid unlimited plan and have the 6620 L and really want to upgrade but am concerned that with the issues I have seen on this forum with the 8800 and Verizon's switch to 5G, That I may be better off to wait until a newer Jetpack with 5G capability is available. Any advice? I am a fulltime RVer and rely on good internet access for phone and internet capability. I am aware that with the 8800 I would see a significant improvement over the current jetpack, and if I add an external antenna It would be even better, however so how best to balance that over waiting for a 5g device?

I appreciate the expertise available from forum members and Verizon customer service as well.

We want to ensure that you are getting the best services and devices at all times. I would want to be confortable with my purchase as well. Unless you are going through the areas where 5G has already been announced or is inplace, I would suggest going ahead and upgrading. If you wait, you will see slower speeds vs what you would with the new device. Even if you get the new device it may be some time until you can get the benefits of 5G, unless you consistantly travel in those areas that have it. I just bought an 8800 - I'm not waiting for 5G. 5G will take some time to roll out and get "worn in." In the meantime, LTE will almost certainly have a long lifespan and remain supported in parallel with 5G, and the speeds it offers are - at least for me - quite sufficient.

My question is, to switch is it as simple as just swapping the SIM card from one to the other? Is there anything else that needs to be done?
