Texting Issues with new Droid Pro

sometimes while typing a text message (using the droid pro keyboard,) the search bar will inexplicably pop up as if i touched the magnifying glass icon. this is causing me to exit out of the messaging screen. then i have to click into it again, re-open the same text message, and finish typing.

is there a shortcut key to open the search bar that i may be hitting accidentally? if so, can i turn it off?

I'm having the same problem, issue is not trying to create a shortcut, it's stopping the droid from going to the search shortcut while you're typing a text. How do you stop it from going to search bar when ur texting, it's so annoying, I hope there's an easy way, I mostly text so if not I'll go back to blackberry asap.

Could it be the mic key accidentally pressed on the lower right of the keyboard? That is for voice search; does it open a search widget?

no, i dont even come close to that sometimes and it happens, its inconsistent, wish I could just shut the keyboard shotcuts off completely.

This explains how to make a shortcut but doesn't explain a solution to the problem......how do you stop the keyboard from "jumping" to the google search screen while you're texting? it's so annoying. please help.

I am having the exact same issue.....have you figured out the cause?

Going to head to the Verizon store shortly to see what they have to say and will let you know if it gets resolved

Hey there. My DROID Pro died, so while I wait for a new one in the mail, I'll try to remember how I found those quick launch settings from memory.

You could either try double tapping the "HOME" on the glass, and that should bring up some quick launch stuff, or I THINK those shortcuts can be found through the "HOME", then "MENU", then "Settings", then "Language & Keyboard". Again, since I can't actually USE my DROID Pro right now, I'm trying to go from memory.

I turned all the keyboard shortcuts off as soon as I stumbled onto them. Emphasis on the "stumbled", as I wasn't actually looking for them at the time.

Oh! And one other thing: be sure that you aren't accidentally hitting the side Quick Launch button (right side, just above center) while typing on the keypad. I've done that accidentally when I grabbed the phone wrong.

You are talking about hitting the little magnifying glass button??

I have the same problem. It's something around the O, or P button. Sometimes I don't even have to touch a button on the screen to make it work. Just get close enough. But when typing I guess I get close enough to that and it does that instead of punching in the letter I wanted. I haven't found a fix yet.

I also sometimes have a problem with the delete and the P button. I will press delete and get a P.

Basically what seems to be happening is that you're typing on a physical keyboard and your fingers sometimes brush against those four navigation buttons. I have tested this theory time and time again, and the issue is more that there isn't a dividing barrier between the screen and the keyboard.

I also notice on my phone, while using the hard keyboard, during texting, sometimes if I press 'c' 'a', or 'v' it will either, cut, copy all, or paste text from the clipboard. It does this without provocation and seeing as I have negated all keyboard shortcuts I fail to understand why the phone would do this.

This is also an issue I am having, and I've now spent over two hours with Customer AND Technical Customer Service and they have no other suggestions except reset the phone which is obviously not a solution.

I have also now spoken to 'Technical Supervisor' about both of these matters and within the Verizon information, and the answer as a general consensus is 'watch your fingers when you're typing' and 'I don't know, I'm sorry, maybe it's a bad phone.'

So, essentially, the rub appears to be that this is a new phone, and these are issues we're just all going to have to deal with until a software update comes out, or something along those lines.

Settings>applications>quick launch. Long-press on any or all default shortcuts that you want to disable and it let's you clear them off.

This was the only thing that worked for me! And haven't had an issue with texting since :smileyhappy:
