     Woman says "Verizon Wireless" before ring tone for all incoming calls.  Can we make her shut up?  Is this my punishment for not renewing my contract, upgrading my phone, and just paying month to month?  I have been with Verizon since 2004.  I am overdue for a phone upgrade but am content with my LG VX 8300. 

     Occasionally I receive the "Verizon Wireless" announcement not followed by a ring tone.  I blocked one incoming number over a year ago and I think that is why this occurs.  One night this announcement occured every hour all night long, continually waking me up.  I was annoyed, but I knew calling customer service would only aggravate my annoyance!

I think the cause is the "Enhanced Roaming Indicator."  This makes your phone play a audible notification of what network you're using when it acquires a new tower.  It's designed to make it easier for people in border areas to know if they are roaming, but it can be pretty annoying, especially when roaming doesn't really matter to most people.

 

I don't know how to turn it off for your phone, but if you Google ERI or "Enhanced Roaming Indicator" + the name of your phone, you should be able to find instructions.  It's also probably covered in the manual if you still have it.
