Cleanup phone

Cleaning up phone, deleting old messages. Verizon sent me a message long ago, the oldest one on the list, and I can't delete it. I get a menu that says Open, and Add to reading list, and Copy, and Share... but it never offers to delete, as with other messages??

Also, when I do delete a message, the content of the message is deleted but the phone # stays visible, will not go away. Any help for that?
