Using Wi-Fi in other countries

I am going to be traveling outside the outside the United States this week.  (Germany, Austria, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Greece).  I was wondering if I could use my phone's wifi capabilities there if I could get on a hotspot without incurring any charges from Verizon. 

 

I called the Customer Support, but I got such an inconclusive answer that I want to try my luck here first.

 

I will be using the airport mode on my phone and then just looking for any wifi hotspots.

Yes, you can use wifi without incurring charges from roaming.  Wifi is completely separate from 3G data and isn't billed or worried about by Verizon.  Keeping your phone in airplane mode will prevent any roaming charges.
