Family hates 1.9 - how can we get old version back?

We live in Mass and got IMG 1.9 two days ago. We can't stand it.
We find the guide and DVR menu is much harder to read; the changed colors and format make it difficult to see at a distance.
And its much slower. We can't click through the guide channels like the previous version. Move of the button presses are ignored, and we can no longer hold it down to quickly scroll through the whole list.
And when using the guide to switch channels, it often disables the volume control after switching the channel. So after going to a new channel we're stuck with whatever volume it has!
I spoke with Tech Support and they did a box "reset" which made no difference. Apparently they've heard many complaints but can't do anything about it.
In a nutshell, we used to be very satisfied but now my whole family hates it, and we're considering changing providers.
I didn't ask for this so-called upgrade and want the old version back. Can someone advise on how to get it back?

Your set top box or DVR needs to be at least a QIP-7100. If it's a 6416, that's the reason why yours is slow you should be able to upgrade that and Verizon knows that full well. If you can't get anywhere with ordering the upgrade by phone, there are Fios TV stores where you can do that in person.

And if it's difficult to read from a distance, I had that problem and it's because I was still using an older analog TV. Analog TVs have limited resolution and can't handle the HD graphics. You need a flatscreen and that was the solution to my problem. People have complained about not being able to afford flatscreens but they have come down a lot in price and if you can afford Fios, it's really not a big deal in my opinion. That's what happens when the technology advances further and older equipment becomes obsolete.

These resolutions to the problem have been posted here many times and those are the facts as far as I can see. So why not make sure that everything is up to date first before switching providers? Nobody is getting the old version back. That's just a part of life.

--We're sorry, but we have decided to go with planned obsolesence as our new customer service model. You'll have to upgrade your equipment. (Gee, new tv's cost that much now, eh? Sorry, mate, but that's how it goes.) Oh, and you'll have to come to Verizon in person, we're too busy to bring you what you need to use the service for which you are paying. SO sorry for the inconvenience.--

"That's just a part of life" as an answer to a serious and honest criticism isn't very customer friendly now, is it?

I have one QIP7100-P2 and one QIP7216 box.

The main TV is a 47" 1080p HD with 120 mHz refresh rate.

And my neighbor has similar hardware and the same complaints.

So there's no excuse. Besides, the navigation issues have nothing to do with display.

The new software just sucks, that's all. And after hearing these complaints for MANY months, Verizon decided to dump it on us anyway. How can they possibly justify that?

No, Microsoft is MUCH better. When people didn't like Vista, they had no problem letting them continue running XP. They even provided procedures so you could fall back. And even with Win 7 out for years, they still provide updates for XP users.

If Verizon cared half as much, I wouldn't be complaining.

I happen to like to the new guide display very much and I've had it since about last October. The graphics are very clear and easy on the eyes and the print is very readable. I don't have any issues with it at all since I've gotten my equipment up to date. The rest, I suppose, is a matter of opinion and preference.

I honestly don't understand why this whole thing has been such a sensitive issue.

Caller ID is a separate issue. Sometimes it disappears if you have had a power outage and have had to reset your set top box.

I honestly don't understand the complaints about any of this.

I hate it too. Now, when I flip channels I am forced to see the channel info (name. number, program description) before I can just view the program.

On the flip side, people were complaining for months that OTHER markets were getting it and the MA market wasn't, and that they were going to switch to another provider UNLESS Verizon pushed the upgrade.

Also, I live in MA and got the upgrade this week. I haven't had any problems with it. I have one older non-7000 series STB that can't handle the HD graphics and can't do the faster scroll speed, but that's not a huge problem.

The "contrast" issues you speak of are certainly well-documented, but I have four HD TV's and have zero problem reading any of the text. But I can imagine if you have an analog/CRT TV, the graphics would probably look pretty bad.

But that's the fault of you having an ancient TV (basically any TV made after 2004 is going to be HD), not Verizon's fault. Why should they keep waiting for their customers to upgrade their equipment?

Bingo! That's expressly what I've been saying all along. I had kept an old analog TV that I purchased in 2005 and the graphics were awful to read being hard on my eyes and with the colors bleeding into each other but as soon as I replaced it with an HDTV, that solved the problem and I figured out that solution when I started coming here and saw a photo of how it looked on someone else's HDTV. On a flatscreen TV, the guide is no issue at all for me and flatscreens are not expensive anymore, particularly if you can afford Fios.

This particular solution to the problem has been posted many times to the point of exhaustion.

And no, that is *not* a Verizon issue but the fact that a flatscreen is really needed should have been communicated.

I just don't understand why this continues to be such an ongoing issue. I knew that the complaints would flare up once again for other customers in MA (not all of course) once their wish for receiving the IMG upgrade was granted and I do not mean this in a sarcastic way. There is really nothing more to say.

This new color the gray bar is very hard to see and the navigation is difficult. This new color puts a strain on my eyes.

I want the old colors as they are pleasing and easy to see.

This thread is OLD. ITs talking about how the family hated the IMG change from many years ago. The one that some want to now go back to.

I agree completely! Every time Verizon updates the IMG it gets worse and worse and worse.

For almost 10 years I've been asking for a simple option to allow channels to be sorted by name instead of number, an option available on multiple local cable companies and DirecTV and the request has been ignored. Yet, they claim this change was because of customer requests...

I want to know who requested smaller text on the focused item in the guide, lots of cluttered graphics which slow down response, flat ugly graphics and baners/recomendations. Who requested that browsing my DVR recordings puts the focused item at the top so I can no longer see most of the list? Who requested the new orange color for kids shows?

The new guide is horrible on my large living room set but is absolutely unusable on my small bedroom set.

Verizon: next time you want to throw money at developing something new for your customers, work on your AWFUL voice menu system. Everytime I have to call-in my blood is boiling in frustration by the time I reach a human.

It is indeed an old thread. I just got the new IMG upgrade as of today and frankly, I like the contrast with the color scheme better with the black background. It's looks fine on my 26 inch flatscreen TV and it's actually easier to read.
