FiOS future availability?

Can anyone point me to information about expected future expansion of FiOS? I'd just like to have some idea if it will ever get near where I live. I'm sure many others would be interested in this information as well.

On a different topic but related, is there such a thing as synchronous dsl? Is it possible to have reasonable bandwidth in both directions? I know Verizon has been pushing that in FiOS but if it never reaches my part of the world is there an alternative (reasonable)?

I was also asking for a more general source where others can also check for their area.

I will however be satisfied with info for just me.
