Best type of connection: ethernet hard-wired or wifi?

If I want to overcome problems with loss of connection so that long downloads are not interrupted, what the best connection. I can connect from computer to Actiontec router via a long cable (also is a cat5 cable or cat6 or something else). Or, I can connect wirelessly - from a Netgear Wireless N USB Adapter WN111 to a DLink4500 (to have a better router tgransmitting wifi) that's connect by cable to the Actiontec router. Thanks.
