Anyone on a Mac with Verizon's modem/router problems

Its been a year now since I hooked up with Verizon's bundled FIOS service. For weeks, at start-up, my Mac iBook had trouble receiving the router's signal through Airport Extreme. At one point it would not receive any signal at all. We tried everything imaginable, even setting up a conference call with a high level Verizon Internet tech and the modem manufacturer's rep. They could not solve the problem even after changing to a new modem, re-installing updated firmware, etc, etc. Finally, one of the lower level Verizon techs honestly told me that their modem sucked for Mac users and if I had an old router I should use that as my primary source. I did that and everything has been fine since then other than a very few dropped signals to my iBook.

There are issues with Mac's and Verizon's routers. One is speed and the other is connectivity. One thing you can try is take the router off of automatic and set the channel for "9" The other thing i've read is setting the router for wireless "G" only and disable the other options.

Another thing you can try is to set Verizon's router to a bridged connection and use your own router behind the Verizon supplied one.

Regarding speed, I don't know what it is with Apples, but they recognize the issues with FioS and have come up with a fix for Their computers. It's called Broadband Tuner 1.0... Download it and see if it imporves your speeds.
