Opting out of DNS Assistance kills web access...

So Verizon has a new "service" in their DNS Assistance. Unfortunately, this prevents me from accessing my company's internal web site when I tunnel in through a VPN connection. So I want to opt out. The Verizon instructions say to change the primary and secondary DNS addresses to end in 14. My addresses are 0.0.0.0. I assume because I'm using dynamic addresses? The router doesn't allow the 0's as soon as I change the trailing 0's to 14's. But what do I put in for the other values? I know they're between 1 and 254. I chose 125 for the first set and that prevents web access. Can someone explain what I'm doing here?

(When I asked Verizon Customer Support via email they resent me this link. When I replied the instructions weren't working, they sent me a link on how to Cancel my service or purchase Expert Care. When I asked if they really meant to offer to terminate my service in response to my problem, they sent me "Thank you for your help request to Verizon. Please visit Verizon Help & Support". And that's the last I heard from them. I thought that was a rather unique customer support attitude.)

Part of the problem I'm having (other than not being a network guru) is that the Verizon setup instructions for the mode say to use Dynamic PPPoE, which is why the DNS addresses are 0.0.0.0.

After tunneling into my company's network through VPN, I was able to set my wireless TCP/IP properties to the DNS addresses given by ipconfig /all. But as soon as I closed my VPN connection, I lost Verizon net connection until I cleared those fields. Since it's my work laptop and moves between work and home every day, I'd rather have something automagic.

Rats, I looked in every screen using ( http://support.dlink.com/emulators/ and then going to the DI-624's) and I do not see how to do it any other way. 😞

But, you can set the DNS info on your computers.

Since you said, you used "ipconfig /all" that tells me you are on Windows.

Now, as how to set the DNS info on your computer might vary a little bit on the Version of Windows...

Notes:

#1 Depending on your version of Windows, you may be able to not need to enter in the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway - for what you are trying to do.

#2 If you are sure that you must enter in more than just the DNS Server Address(es), please tell me.

#3 And when telling me that, be sure to tell me what info is in your router at Home -> DHCP. You will understand why, latter on...
