I am trying to figure out if one of the PC's (windows XP pro) I have wont renew the IP address because of a router problem or is it a problem with the PC?
Here is the story:
Desktop is using a Linksys 802.11G wireless adaptor.
Working fine for a couple years, then one day it would not connect to the router.
When you try and repair the connection, the computer says "cannot renew IP address"
It has connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found.
I have tried to use windows and the Linksys software to configure the connection, but no luck.
I have tried releasing the IP and renewing it, but still no luck.
I have tried connecting the computer in question to the router with an ethernet cable and it still will not renew.
I have another desktop in the house that connected wirelessly with no problems.
I dumped the entire OS and reloaded XP Pro and still have the same problem.
I took the wireless adaptor and put it on my primary PC, disconnected the ethernet, loaded the Linksys software and connected with no problems.
I am thinking it the PC, but how do I fix this problem?
Thanks for any help.
