Unable to connect to internet wired but am able to wireless

I have been unable to connect my wired desktop to the internet but I can connect via my laptop wireless. I have an Actiontec MI424WR routerand all indications appear normal. I have rebooted the router and computer several times as well as unplug the power to the router. I have swapped ouut the cables and even tried connecting the computer directly to the cable coming from the ONT. Strange that I can connect wirelessly but not wired. I have tried all the ports on the back of the router. I called tech support but for some reason I cannot get a human being and the computer there wants to transfer me to the new TV channels in my area. I was hoping for an answer here. Thanks...rick5472

What do you get for an ip address? If it's 169.254.x.x then could be bad ports on router something with NIC. Even with router bypassed may need to break lease of log in if you are a PPPoE. When calling tech support try saying "agent" to automated system. should get you to live person.

192.168.1.3 is ip address. Fixed connection. NIC seems to be receiving packets. Still unable to connect. I even restored my system to a known working version.

try pinging out from command prompt. if comes back times out or unreachable try booting comp in safe mode and connecting or pinging out.

ok while your working on this be sure to turn your wireless off since you can connect that way.

Try these steps

1. Check the NIC make sure everything is cool in device manager

2. Route back which is place both ethernet cables into the router if one end lights up and not the other try the rest of the ports try this on both ends incase of bad ports.

3. Try resetting the router. Yes I know this can be bothersome at times but its known to work 😉

Also try the above in safemode with networking just to be on the safe side. If it works there then try normal boot and see if it works. If not we might be looking and Firewall, Virus, Spyware, Malware etc...

My personal experience with unable to Receive packets has been the cable but then again its also been the router so definately check both.

Finally got in touch with a human at Verizon. He did some tests on my router and found some problems. Not sure what he found. I do notice that the Coax LAN light is very dim or out and was having problems connecting to on demand or widgets on the TV end. He is sending me out a new router and should be here by Tuesday so will update then.

yeah generally your lights on the router are somewhat bright so when they are dim you can definately tell the difference and if any one of the go out the whole router could be affected
