Router page/password

I reset my router and of course it defaulted back to Ch. 1, which is always a problem. When I tried to access the router, it went to a verizon page. I can type in the user name but the password box creates 3 character for each 1 that I type. Other neighbors had the same problem. I have a call in but am still waiting for the call back. Any way to permanently change the default to NOT be ch 1 ?!! It seems like a very easy fix, but typing a password should be easy too.

It's suppose to give you three stars for every character you type. The password should be either "password" or "password1", if it isn't then you may need to reset the router and make your own.
