Text Message Super Overage?

Alright, I'm having a REALLY BIG problem here and I'm praying that I can seek some help on these forums. Before I state the problem, I want to say I'm on my Dad's family plan and he's on E Wireless Communications which confused me because I though the bill would be from verizon but I guess it's a sub company. Oh yeah and I have a texting plan with 5000 sending out and unlimited in. Well that's what it says. So onto the problem, my dad received the bill and it was 1300 dollars for my phone alone. and yes that's right 1300.00 well, around there. I was freaking out because I couldn't believe it! I checked the bill and it said I sent out 10782 messages!!! Alright I just want to say, I have been texting a lot recently because I just got my first girlfriend and yeah but that's not the point. First of all, right next to that 10000 it says 5090 free (90 VZW to VZW texts) so it should be about 5000 over BUT second, I text but not THAT much especially since I was in school I didn't have time! I also checked Verizon's website to see my estimates and all to see if I really texted that much and it looked perfectly fine! its been 15 days and I've only sent 2261 and I haven't changed how much I texted since last month if not more. So at that rate, I should have been perfectly fine. Third, here's a question, when they charge you over, do they COMBINE the received AND sent? She has T- Mobile but still, the plan says Unl. in Mess/5000Out/(20.0...price) so I should've only been charge sent! Last, isn't the overage only .10 cents per message overage??? So I'm just really confused. Can someone just please help me out I'm desperate I'm sorry it was a long post and this can't be happening.

BTW, recently E Wireless Communications has been messing up our bills like it was $700 for my sister and my dad called they said oops thats 200. the next month it was 500 and my dad called again and they said oops that was 150.

Hi David -
I think you misunderstand how your texting plan works....if you have the 5000 bundle, what that gives you is 5000 texts, SENT AND RECEIVED, from carriers other than Verizon, and unlimited Verizon to Verizon texts.

If you SENT 10782 messages, then how many were received? M2M (Verizon to Verizon) are free, but you are charged for every text outside Verizon's network, sent and received.

What you need to do, or what your Dad needs to do, is to BACKDATE an unlimited texting plan, so that it will cover the overages. It will cost $10 more per month than the $20, 5000 text package, but it sounds like you're going to need it.

BOTH SENT AND RECEIVED TEXTS count towards your allowance.

First of all thanks for responding so quick :smileyhappy: . and well it just says 10783 so I guess it was the total. Still, right next to it it said 5090 free so how is that supposed to work? and well yes I thought about that but the plan says right there UNLIMITED in and 5000 out so your sure its for both received and sent? Even then, that price can't be right can it???

And yea, he almost did, I almost had a heart attack for the whooping I was going to get!!!

hahahaha I bet!!! Verizon does not offer a text plan with what you say the invoice states.

But I would really have your dad do as SuzyQ said and do it soon...... Call in add the unlimited text plan (even if only for a month or two) and it is imperative the plan be BACKDATED. If he does not mention that, the bill will not be reduced. Ten bucks more beats $1000+ more...... and a possible whoopin! :smileywink:

Call customer service right away, and see if you can get the texting plan put on retro to this cycle - if not then you may be able to get a reduction in the bill - and add the unlimited texting to the family plan for $10 more. You need it. If Dad balks, then suggest ways you can EARN it each month, and pay for it yourself.

Yeah I figured I just thought that since it was E Wireless ( have any of you heard of them?) that it was like their special plan or something. So thanks for that but can someone tell me specifically what to tell my dad for this backdating so I could unscrew myself?

hah yea trust me not maybe, more like a GUARANTEED whoopin I have strict asian parents -__- but I appreciate them they work really hard thats why I feel really bad and my family is already going through trouble so for me to do this is just ughhh. At least I'm the only one out of three to have straight A's!!! (my sis in 8th grade, I'm 9th, my brother a senior)

whats retro? and oh I'm just trying to reduce the bill to at least 500 I have my cash stash but I can't do 1300 but I can go maybe a half

retro=retroactive to the beginning of the billing cycle....

When your Dad calls Customer Service, have (try to) remain calm and reasonable (he's more likely to get better results!), and ask if he can change the plan to unlimited texting, and backdate it to cover the current overages. If they say no, (since the bill has already been generated), they MAY offer a credit for up to half the overages on a one time deal, and then add the unlimited texting for the current month and future billing.

I pray this all works out for you...please let us know how this turns out?

oh no, the way the bill is calculated or from what I've seen is they count free with overages because on my sisters bill, she has the plan too but it says 4380, 4380 FREE because of the 5000 so I'm guessing I owe 5000 texts unless I do the backdating you're talking about.

BTW, Suzy do you get paid for doing this? you really should

Maybe E Wireless (which I am not familiar with) bills differently - if it's figured as you say, and you are only over by 5000 or so, at ten cents each would be $500 + dollars, not $1300, unless E Wireless charges more for overages than Verizon. And their policies on backdating and changing plans may be different as well...which doesn't help you a bit. Budone and I are just telling you what Verizon will/can do - it may not work at all.

In any case, your Dad is going to need to call and see if the bill can be adjusted somehow, and a more appropriate texting plan put in place (or not, you may just need to learn to live with the limits you have - not an unreasonable thing for a 9th grader... :smileyhappy:

And no, David, I do not get paid to answer questions on here - none of us do. We are just customers, helping other customers. The Verizon employees are designated that way, and the rest of us are just regular folks.
