network printing

Hi - Home set-up is FIOS, modem, single computer with VISTA, and one USB printer.

I have a work laptop that I bring home... I connect to FIOS with wireless.

How do I get the wireless laptop to print on the printer connected to the hoem computer?

Assuming you have set up your home computer to network with the office laptop (when connected to your ISP wirelessly), go to CONTROL PANEL (on your home computer) and cllick on printers. You should see your printer. Right click on it and set it up for sharing. With your home computer on, log into your home network with your work computer. You should be able to see your home printer and set it up. May have to install your printer drivers on your office laptop. Only downside is that you'll have o have your home computer on (not necessarily logged into) to be able to print.

If the printer supports network, then connect the printer to the router and install the network drivers on the both the PC and the laptop so you can print from both of them. What's the model of your printer?

I hooked the printer to the router... it is network capable. I also set it up to share.

I suspect I don't have the printer's name and IP address entered correctly; the laptop cannot find it.

What's the model of your printer? May be follow the printer manual to install the network driver

Barking_Pumpkin is correct this is how to do it but let me explain more.

go to CONTROL PANEL (on your home computer) and click on printers. You should see your printer. Right click on it and set it up for sharing. You will need the "home computer name", you can find that if you right click on my computer and select properties. You will see computer name in there. Once you have done the keep your home computer on. Go to your work laptop. Go to start, then run. In run type in \\"home computer name" and press enter. Once they are connected together you will see a printer folder open that up and double click on the printer you want to print on. When you want to print you will want to make sure your home computer is turned on or it will not print.

If you have a nework capable printer, it is better not to use a network share on one of your PCs. If you use a network share, that PC would need to be on when ever you want to use the printer. Also you may have issues with share permissions and such. I have 6 different PCs that use my network printer, and the only one that needs to be on is the one that is printing.

My Konica Minolta Color Laser needs a port setup on the PC for TCP/IP printing. Your printer should let you set the Fixed IP address in the printer.

Add the printer as a local printer and then go into the printer properties and you should see a ports tab. Under the ports tab select Add, and add a Standard TCP/IP Port. On the XP boxes I needed to install a TCP/IP printer driver, in addition to the regular printer driver. You will need to have the correct IP address and subnet mask for the printer. In order to do this you must set your printer with a static IP address on your network. Works great here for Xp Vista and Windows 7.
