Problem with Verizon storing up all email to Outlook Express

Generally I have no problems with getting my mail sent to my OE, however I have this weird problem periodically. Even though I delete my mail in OE, it appears that my mail is not being deleted from my Verizon email account--so all the original mail is store there even though I have deleted it in my OE email account. Periodically my Verizon mail will try to send all the mail stored there to my OE which results in me getting an error message (0X8004210A) in OE. It times out because there are so many emails trying to be sent. I'm thinking that there must be some sort of setting in my Verizon mail that I need to fix that will delete the mail once it is sent to my OE. To solve the problem temporarily, I went into my Verizon mail and manually deleted all the mail. Once the huge amount of email store there was deleted, OE worked fine. Does anyone know a permanent fix for this problem? Thanks in advance!

To all of you, a big thanks. I was able to get into the right spot to fix everything--at least in theory. We'll know in a few days, but no reason to think it won't work. You all are great!

In OE there is a setting to "Delete mail from server" when deleting for OE. Make sure that is selected.

I was really hoping it was jsut a setting issue--thanks! I can find the setting to Delete mail in OE when I exit, but haven't been able to locate the setting to Delete from the Server. Do you happen to know where it's located in OE?

Go to tools, then select accounts. In the list find the verizon.net email account highlight it and hit properties. In properties select the advanced tab. The last option is "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted items'"

The best thing to do in my opinion is to have OE delete the emails from the server when you download them to OE. Assuming that OE is set to leave copies of the messages on the server, do this:

Tools ==> Accounts ==> the email account you want to update ==> Properties ==> Advanced tab ==> uncheck "Leave a copy of messages on server" ==> OK ==> Close

That should fix it. Now if that checkbox is not currently checked, I don't know why emails would not be deleted from the server.

I would advise against this method. The reason is it will download all mail to the local server and not keep a copy on the server. So if your PC or Hard drive crashes you will lose all your email. Or if you use 2 PC's you will not get the mail on both of them.
