Info on Deleting FTP Files from Personal Web Space

We understand that there has been some confusion regarding files that had been created via the FTP process and which have not been accessible on the Personal Web Space server since August 21, 2011. If you still have FTP created files residing on your Personal Webspace that you need to have deleted off the Personal Webspace server, please contact the HSI or FiOS tech support by calling 1-800-Verizon. These files then need to be manually removed by our server team. You will not be able to edit or remove FTP created files via the SiteBuilder tool; however, files created via SiteBuilder are not impacted by this change and you can continue to edit and delete those files within SiteBuilder.

I spent two hours on hold and another fifty seven minutes tonight with tech support trying to find a way to access my old FTP accessed files still on site.

I told him about the "changes for FTP users" email with the August 21, 2011 deadline.

The tech thought it was my Mozilla Firefox (which he admited does not work with Site Builder) so he had me re-install IE, try that, and still no way to access my files.

I backed up all those files locally before hand so they are safe, but I want to delete online what I don't need any more to open up storage space.

They are all there when I look at WEB SPACE MONITOR but there is no way to delete them.

He suggested I creat a site through the SiteBuilder tool then possibly I could access and delete them but that still did not allow access to them.

He suggested I try "Premium Support" for help. I want some free help.

Your post is the first I have found addressing this issue.

Do they do this for free or is it gonnacostameplenty?

I am in the same situation. I was told all my web files woulde be deleted by today. Even got a call that it was deleted. Yet in the Personal Web Area, I stil have 13MB of files, which means I will be charged $5 per month....

GRRRR>>>......what is so hard about removing a directory and all the files in it?

Give us some access and we can do it ourselve since Verizon Techs cannot seem to grasp this simple request

Jamie, Same Problem here. I created and maintained a site for our local amateur radio club which required periodic updating diuring the year. THE MESSAGE FROM VERIZON STATED YOU WOULD NO LONGER BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN THE SITE AFTER AUG.21 21011. IT DID NOT SAY YOU COULD NOT DELETE YOUR FILES AFTER THAT DATE. Website builder tool is a joke and very poor interface designed for those who know nothing about even basic HTML. I have moved the site to a different locatiion on the internet however I am disturbed I cannot clear the old verizon site out as the data is all out of date. I have spent on separate days about 2-3 hours on the phone with various verizon customer service personel many who either played dumb or had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. One tech on HSI desk insisted I must sign up for premium help at $15/month for a minimum of 10 months to make the problem 'go away'. I could delete all the files, 16Mg worth in 15 minutes if I had FTP access. He then told me I could sign up for 'help' clearing this problem for one time fee of $89.xx but if it took less than 30 min the price might be $49.xx. This problem was created by verizon and the info sent to the customer base was incomplete and inaccurate at best. If you care to keep me as a customer, verizon must contact me and simply clear out my personal web space. That is not a big request for a company like verizon. I await your reply and everybody else on this thread should likewise hear from you (Verizon)

I have the same problem. I've moved my website, and I would like to remove the old files that still exist on the verizon server. Why can't they allow us access to OUR OWN FILES??? I'm very angry at Verizon.

I even had/have a ticket with Verizon to DELETE all my WEB Files. Was supposed to be completed by 10/2 - it was not. So I got online with Verizon and they stated the SERVER Team would finish up the removal on Monday 10/3. Well it is now 10/4 and I still have 13MB of files in my Personal Web Space which means I will be charged $5 for being over 10MB

Here is an idea, stop making broken promises.

If you promisse to do something, you better do it on schedule.

Failure to do what you are saying you are going to do when you say you are going to do it, is not an option.

If you fail to do so:

#1 Users seriously might consider canceling service with you.

#2 Users will go to other ISPs.

#3 And they will complain about the bad/horrible customer service, which makes your ship sink ever more. ex: They will tell other users not to bother to sign up with you and tell other users who have Verizon Service to cancel too.

Get with it now, before it is to late!!!

Nope not me...still shows 13MB of disk space being used, which means I will be charged for being over 10MB.

I have now talked with 11 different people and 3 have promised me all my web files would be deleted. One even asked me if I wanted all my photos deleted or was I talking about web space? I stated all Personal Web Space Files at Mysite.verizon.net.

So now it has been 6 days for a very simple request/ticket and still no resolution.

If this was at my work place, the IT contractor in charge of operations/Help Desk would be thrown out of the office never to be hired again.

Same story.... I have begged 3 different reps to remove the old site files. To his credit, one acutually spent a good hour with me using remote access to give it a try. At the end, with no success, he apologised and said he would contact a "higher authority". I have since moved on to a new hosting company, but my high school swim team members continue to view meaningless and misleading information when they use their link to the old Verizon site. Hell, I can't even make edits to the old home page to to tell the kids they're in the wrong place and need to go to the new web site. This mess affects hundreds of people when you include 80 families. Thanks Verizon.

The 13 MB of space is used by Sitebuilder files, not FTP. If you need any of those deleted, you should be able to take care of that.

I am also unable to delete the files which I had uploaded via FTP. Yes, I received the note that FTP service would be discontinued but it said nothing about being unable to access the files or delete them using Verizon's online tools. I naively assumed that would be possible. I am completely fine with deleting all my content. It is not much in any event and I will feel much better if it is not floating in perpetuity beyond my control. Has anyone found a way to get this accomplished? I called the phone number offered in the solution text and was on hold for half an hour before I hung up in frustration. I tried online support who transferred me to someone else in live chat who explained that discussing this is "outside of the boundaries for support." They did provide a phone number for web hosting.

I called that number, spoke with a representative who placed me on hold again, this time for twenty minutes before They hung up on me.

I can do nothing useful with the personal web space. BTW all the files were uploaded via FTP. When I try to delete the entire space, there is a message "We are sorry, but we are unable to retrieve your account information at this time. Please try again later.". Well later has come and gone, and always it's the same thing. Is there anyway to get rid of these files.

Also I am confused about just how much personal web space is free. One place says 10 MB is free, but the space monitor indicates 20 MB. (x% of of 20 MB in use). I have never asked for more than the default, but I have to wonder if I'm being charged more or not. Anyway since, I can't maintain the pages I have with FTP. I don't want it all deleted.

I just sent an email to customer support (10:30 AM PST on 11/8/11). It will be interesting to see how soon this gets resolved for me. I've been slow to get my stuff off the server since I kept hoping VZ would just give me a method to do it myself. This is just silly!

I too tried taking care of this by e-mail, only to get a standard e-mail reply that I had to call customer service. It ended up taking about a week, and 3 calls, the last one being nearly an hour as the rep tried to contact then explain the problem to their "network specialist". I will say the reps I talked to were as helpful as they could be, but didn't really know what the heck I was trying to explain about losing FTP access, etc.

Verizon, you really dropped the ball on this one. Your previous communications, prior to the FTP access change, said we would not be able to maintain our sites, it never said they would be "orphaned" and we would not even be able to delete files (websites). I mistakenly assumed you would provide some form of control panel or web access to upload and download, delete, etc. and we'd only lose the convenience of FTP access.

Having had some long term personal sites on verizon, was one of my reasons to continue with verizon. Now the webspace you get with your verizon account is essentially useless. I'm running out of reasons to stay with Verizon.

If I could have resolved this by e-mail, it would at least have saved me quite a bit of time on the phone. You would do well to provide in this forum an e-mail address where folks can ask to have their orphaned websites deleted with minimal hassle.

I also want to take down my site, since I can no longer edit or maintain it. Site Builder doesn't work on my system and even if it did I can't edit old pages. I called Verizon and was switched around to about six different support techs in various locations, none of whom were able to help me, and most of whom didn't even understand the issue. That ate up an hour or two and accomplished nothing.

It's a very simple thing, Verizon. Either give us a way to take down old files and sites online, or give us an easy way of contacting someone who understands the issue and who is capable of resolving it. Preferably not on the phone.

As a long-time Verizon customer, I am extremely displeased by this situation. Over the past years I have authored several ftp-created webpages; given Verizon's elimination of FTP, I simply want to post a redirect to:

It is not the point that there are better hosting places on the internet or Verizon's sitebuilder program isn't the best.

The point is verizon took an action that discounted all the work many of us have done with our personal webspace storage.

And they did it because they can with no regard for us and our time we put into it.

Here is what you can do as we have power in numbers.

Please stand up to Verizon and file a complaint to NJ Consumer Service Center at (973) 504-6200.

I am not a professional web builder and I gave up my previous internet provider because verizon offered personal webspace storage.

I am one who added more space and pays a montly fee.

I am now locked out and stuck:

1- The changes to sitebuilder prevents me from editing my website which I use as a calling card.

2-I am unable to delete all the files uploaded by ftp and

3-Verizon Tech help was useless in helping me out and only offered an "all or nothing" deletion" which would eliminate my sitebuilder website.

4. Consequently I am stuck paying a monthly fee for personal webspace and storage until I can rebuild somewhere else.

I'm sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

My personal web page, which I have used for many years, has over 250 files. A few examples are --

I have NO INTENTION OF HAVING THESE ( or any other of my personal web space) FTP UPLOADED FILES ERASED.

I can access these files through the web. I cannot access them through sitebuilder. I cannot edit them. I cannot inform anyone who accesses these locations that they will not be updated. I cannot redirect visitors to another site. I have called multiple times and spent much time with customer service to correct this situation. No solution to this difficulty seems to be provided by Verizon. Has anyone found a workaround?

My solution was to create a new FTP Site courtesy of Free Web Hosting http://www.000webhost.com/

I can (and do) refer to my old web site as needed. The Verizon site will remain as a frozen archive.

Wow, trying to get files deleted... Here is my experience so far...

Live Chat - Transfered once
Waited~ 15mins
Live Chat - Transfered back
Wait ~ 1 min..
Gave me a phone number...
Dialed that phone number 866-770-6800, wrong number, transfered
Waited ~14mins
The person had no idea what I was talking about
Put on hold for ~10mins, hanged up on me...
Called again
Waited ~10mins...
Was given a second number to call 888-553-1555
On hold for 22 mins, need to hang up now - Will try again later.

Just waited over 1 hour 30mins, still in Square 1...

People should not have to go through this kind of stuff... Verizon knows there is an issue with this, why not organize support for this issue.

Since verizon discontinued support for FTP, I can't update the html files in my personal webspace.
There are no tools enabling the end user to delete html files that were uploaded with FTP.
I requested that all the files be deleted from my personal webspace in an online support live chat session.
They couldn't do it.
Will verizon install a delete button for files uploaded by FTP? If yes, when?

Can someone please explain to me why, heading in to 5 months after FTP access was pulled, that the technical support representatives at the call center are just as clueless about how this issue is to be handled as they were on day one.

I just spent almost an hour on the phone with a technical support rep who, bless her heart, spent most of the time on a Citrix Go To Assist session trying to access the files I had already told her were created via FTP and not accessible via Site Builder using, well, Site Builder!!!

My "issue" had to be escalated to the support operations team and I will be called back in 24 to 48 hours. Why, oh why, is it not logged for the phone reps that if someone calls saying they have files in PWS that were placed there via FTP and that need to be removed that this must be, immediately, sent up the chain instead of having them spend inordinate amounts of time doing what those of us making the call already know is impossible?

It is a sad commentary on this whole sorry process, from start through today, that Verizon cannot seem to handle anything (except pulling FTP access with very little warning and no functional replacement) exeditiously. I cannot be the first, and certainly will not be the last, person calling to make this request as we find alternative providers who actually support real website building and development.

Verizon, make a new year's resolution to clean up your act!! Don't make your customers wallow in a mess of your creation any longer! An excellent first step would be posting a direct number any customer could call to have files that had been put in place by FTP deleted without having to jump through multiple hoops and waste their and your own employees' time.

I, too, have been stuck on the telephone for an unconscionably long time, in a vain attempt to get all of the website files associated with my account deleted. I'm on the verge of deciding that the only way to resolve the problem is to cancel my account.

Instead, I am hoping a kind moderator will take pity on me, and arrange for someone to take care of this. Please and thank you.

Well, 15 days and never a call back. Bigger problems have ensued in that my company's website has now been knocked straight out of Google Search Results because the entire site is duplicated on two different web hosts.

I certainly hope that someone is ready to take care of this, immediately, when I call tomorrow. This has now reached the point of infuriating incompetence. Somebody, please give me a hand in wiping my files since I cannot do it myself!

Advice -- vary your new site so Google will not reject it. The chances of quick verizon response is very very small

Well now it is February 2012. Last September I put some messages here on the problem of my website. Jaime Lee or some other Administrator, were going to take care of this problem. I can not edit my website because of the problem that we discussed back then. Since it was edited via FTP. I asked that Verizon either let me edit my site or I asked that you take my website down completely. I would prefer that it be taken down completely. There is some personal information there that I put on my website that a person would like me to take off. But I cannot edit the site. I am now asking again that you kindly remove my website completely. I do understand that when you delete all the files on my personal web site, that they are unrecoverable. That will be fine since I have them backed up on my computer.

I understand that some others had the same problem and that you accommodated them by deleting their personal web site.

If you created your site under a sub-account as I did, and if you want your entire site taken down (i.e., don't need to manage individual files) and are still having problems, the below procedure should do the trick. Took about 3 minutes total to figure out on my own and remove my sites (it ain't rocket science):

1. Login to account.

2. On the toolbar at top, drill down to Account >> Account Profile >> your relevant profile (click on it).

3. In your profile, scroll down to sub accounts.

4. Click Manage Sub-account. You should now be in the Verizon/Yahoo Account & Billing page. Here is where you can manage/delete each sub account (including its associated Web Space) as desired.

5. After deletion, try accessing via browser the mysite.verizon.net/ URL you were using for your website. You should get a an error (423 locked). Your site is now down, permanently.

Once deleted, all files associated with that sub account/web space should be purged -- if not immediately, then the next time Verizon does its routine system house cleaning.

NB (duh): If you created your site using a different method (e.g., not a sub-account, extra $pace, business account), the above may not work for you, as Verizon may have stored your files on a different machine/server/location, which may require additional/other steps (or even their personal attention to your specific case).

I've read through most of these postings regarding the change in the functionality of FTP, as a means for accessing and/or deleting files from a customer's Personal Web Space, and both the original decision and the subsequent process that only allows customers to delete files from their Personal Web Space, seems totally unsatisfactory.

I've come to the conclusion that maybe Verizon customers should consider banding together and engaging in a little social activism and try to organize an Internet-based petition, to try to get this decision from back in August reversed. This effort at social activism was recently effective both in getting Bank of America to reverse their ill-advised $5 debit card fee, and even more recently in getting Verizon to reverse their even more ill-advised $2 "convenience fee", for customers who pay their bills online directly through Verizon’s web interface. Since reversing this decision is likely a virtually no-expense programming change to unblock the prior FTP account access, I think we should go for it.

To that end, I've already staged an online petition for others to review and sign. Please consider forwarding this link anyone else who you believe might be inclined to endorse this petition request. Thanks!

Thank-you for putting the petition together. I've signed it. I hope many others do as well. If Verizon is going to provide personal web space as part of the Internet service, this web space should be usable with any web site construction tool that I want to use. SiteBuilder is extremly limited and does not meet my needs. I don't understand why Verizon has removed this capability that costs them virtually nothing, yet benefits their customers greatly.

So they can charge for the same service that used to be free. That's par for the course these days; you don't just pay the same and get less, you pay more and get less. They jacked up my internet service 3 bucks and then took away FTP access.

The fact that this is still a problem for me and others really speaks to Verizon's lack of customer support. Combine that with the "creative" marketing , incomprehensible support system, and layers of employees who can't actually help customers with anything, and it's enought to drive you nuts.

My FTP created site is still there.....I can't edit it....delete it.....save it or migrate it. It's like a hostage situation....

AND THEY CONTINUE TO ADVERTISE LOWER PRICES THAN THEY GIVE TO LONG TERM CUSTOMERS.

I don't have any "Manage Sub-account" button or menu to click. When I click on the "Change" button for the sub-account with the personal web space, my only options are

This sub-account has administrative rights.

This sub-account has Verizon .net email address.

This sub-account can access FiOS TV Online.

The only way I can see to get rid of the web space is to delete the entire sub-account. This would delete my email address that I use for everything.

It may come to that, but for now, I'm stuck with the outdated version of my website still there.

Call into the call center, and ask them to have OSC delete the files for you. Shouldnt take them more then 5 min or so.

I hope I hit the right reply button, first time poster. The fact of MY matter is I don't care about a web site, I just want to upload and occasional photo for online auctions, forums etc.. The whole website builder thing is a pain. I pay for the 10MB, why it it so difficult? I don't want to open a photopail (ovoid the ® usage) to get something I already pay for.

Seriously though, I've learned that the best strategy when forced to phone is to hang up as soon as it becomes clear (as it usually does) that the rep has no idea what to do. Call again and again if necessary... many Verizon reps are not familiar with Verizon services and practices. Once I got lucky when I asked if there were a separate phone number for Home Monitoring specialists... I then phoned that number and actually reached someone who knew what he was talking about. So it CAN happen!

Here it is, the middle of November 2012 more than a year after FTP was taken for no apparent reason. I was away on vacation when the emails went out, and did not get access to try to remove old FTP'd files in time. Now, over a year later, and still no one at Verizon has any idea of how to get old files deleted, and no tool has been forthcoming for the user to simply wipe thier own personal web space.

I have an old orphaned account from another **bleep** by Verizon at vze6u6m5 that should not even exist. I was told to just waitr and it would go away. No such luck.

My present account at vzexcw10 has an old FTP splash scrreen that was my response to that original site getting **bleep**'d that I would like removed.

Not one person at Verizon seems to have diddle squat for how to get rid of these old FTP files.

I have been in talks with Delaware's Attorney General, and they said I can petition thier office to take Verizon Payments until this is resolved. As of Monday, December 3rd, I will be having tthe AG office take my Verizon Payments until this matter is resolved.

I also have experienced the mess the Verizon has created with the failed personal webspace. I have spent no less that 2 hours working with the various technical support teams ovr the past months to delete my files that were maintained with FTP without any success.

So today, I decided to embarc on another journey and learned they no longer support this service at all. I did not get a good answere as to why they were still charging me or a service that they no longer provide. Come 'on Verizon, you cannot charge for a service that is not functioning properly and you no longer support. How do I get a refund dating back to the time this was discontinued?

Effective January 19, 2014 the following actions will be taken in regard to Personal Web Space (PWS)

Notification will be posted on PWS site advising of upcoming withdrawal plans
No new PWS customers will be provisioned
Customers will no longer be able to purchase additional Personal Web Space

I'm still getting charged $4.95 for my additional personal web space even though I am no longer using it. And it's supposedly decommissioned as of 3/15 anyway. As has been the case for months, the on line tool to remove my PWS service fails every time. I called in to support in February and after getting routed to 6 or 7 different people, the conclusion was reached that no one knows how to resolve the technical problem, so I was given a credit for Feb and March on my bill.

Is there any way to get this fixed permanently, or do I have to go through the circus again to get a credit for next month's bill? Will I finally stop being charged when things really get shut down in September?
