Verizon MI424WR Router Issue , Keeps rebooting by itself

I have 15/5 fios with Verizon MI424WR Router .

My Router Issue that Keeps rebooting by itself every time IM downloading 3 or 2 small " 20-50 MB " movies online or when I try to connect the wireless printer as soon as the printer try to connect to the router it reboots right away , seems like the router is not able to handle any barely load !!! Its been happening for the last month very often . What should I do ?

Check the power pack where it's plugged into a wall outlet. Make sure the plug isn't loose in the outlet. Then check the plug where the power cable connects to the router. Check the coax cable connector at the router and tighten it if loose.

All are Good. It's not a wire issue ! I just tried to download 2 small movies and it stopped and rebooted again?

Call Verizon tech support. They seem pretty willing to send you a replacement router, even if there's only a slim chance it will fix whatever problem you're having. With the symptoms you're experiencing I doubt you'll have any trouble getting a replacement within a day or two.

There's not a lot more you can do to fix a router.

Make sure it isn't overheating by:

1. Don't place it on top of anything that creates heat, like the STB, ONT, PC, etc...

2. You could try putting it in a vertical position if it isn't already (on edge instead of flat on top of something).

3. Make sure it isn't clogged with dust in the vents. If it is, try cleaning out the dust.

4. The power pack on the end of the cord and the router should be warm, but not hot to touch. If either is too warm to touch, it probably needs to be replaced. You could try placing a fan blowing on it to cool it off just to verify that. If it works ok with the fan blowing at it, then it should be replaced.

Putting it in a vertical position helped the router cools down, it used to warmer .Still the problem the same so i called and they will ship new router to me by Tusday .

Is there a log file that will show the reboot history on my router? I've been trouble shooting this now for 2 weeks and now I am out of town and my wife is having serious conneciton issues. I am remote desktop connecting to a wired laptop in my home office. I get discconnected and see that the Active Status (Router Has Been Active For):0 hours, 4 minutes. Is this stored in a log that I can view?

Sould I just request a new router?

I just signed up for FiOS 25/25 and I have the Actiontec MI424-WR Rev. F, firmware 20.10.7, and I am having the exact same issues. This is day 3 of having this service and my router keeps rebooting every 5 minutes or so and I lose all connectivity. I can even make it fail immediately by trying to access my yahoo or hotmail email accounts. This is ridiculous and I can't find the tech support phone number on the site since they seem to be hiding it.

The Actiontec has two log files.
System Monitoring; Advanced Status; System Logging
Firewall Settings; Security log
The problems is both logs are cleared when the router reboots.
However, you can have the Actiontec log to a syslog server.

And yes, you should request a replacement. The router should not be rebooting on it's own.

I was having this same problem. On a brand-new FIOS installation, the brand-new router would reboot itself many times an hour. Verizon replaced the router with another one and the problem persisted.

My setup includes an Apple Airport Extreme that is running in bridge mode from the MI424WR.

A tech came over and found a cable was connected from a cat-5 output port on the Airport back to one of the output ports of the MI424WR -- a "loopback." He said he's seen this quite a few times and it's now the first thing he checks for. This had apparently been done during the initial installation and switchover from Cablevision, when cables were being disconnected and reconnected.

Things are running fine now, and I might wind up removing the Airport from the setup.
