No one at Verizon has been able to help me with this problem and it's very annoying. I'm on my third DVR. The first one just died altoghether. The second was the older Motorola with the smaller drive and the replacement I received a few weeks ago is newer QIP7232.
The problem is that both units started dropping audio at random times on random channels. There's no way to predict when it happens or on what channels. I can scroll through the channels and I'll come across some where the audio works and some where it doesn't.
Before I received the recent replacement, I was working with a Tech Suppport person on the phone who power cycled and reset the DVR remotely. Neither of which resulted in any change. So she made an appt. for someone to come out and check the system. He found nothing wrong and replaced the unit anyway. The next day the new unit exhibited the same behavior as the previous one. I was told by the phone tech that they have been having issues with the HDMI output. My audio output is connected to my receiver with the Toslink optical cable because the receiver does not support HDMI. So I changed the video cables from HDMI to P-B-Y component anyway thinking maybe by some small chance there was some link to the digital audio port and the HDMI output. No change. I tried a different optical cable. No change. I moved the the optical cable from the DVR input on the back of the receiver to the DVD input and switched the receiver to use DVD as the audio component. No change.
The last course of action in this troubleshooting process would be to use a different receiver to see if that is the source of the problem. There's a problem with that because a HD A/V receiver would run me at least $400. If the problem persists, I could take it back secure in the knowledge that it's not the receiver. But what if the problem goes dormant then reappears AFTER the 30-day return period on the receiver? Now I'm stuck with receiver that while I'm sure has more bells and whistles, it's one I didn't really need.
This problem has gotten to be extremely frustrating and the service is unacceptable. I've seen on other forums where people experienced the same problem but no one posted a solution. So anyone know what this is?
