Can't get to Google or Bing on laptop since switch to FIOS

Strange problem. Laptop can get to pretty much all sites, except google, gmail, bing. Tried connecting wirelessly and also wired, but no luck. Typically use Internet Explorer 8. Installed Firefox and still couldn't get to those search sites.

Desktop PC and iPad can get to all sites, so it's not being blocked at the "modem" level.

Spent two hours talking to Verizon and then to HP who made the laptop. Neither have found anything. Did all the typical- ping the sites (lost), deactivate anti-virus, uninstall and reinstall Internet Exploreer.

I don't know if the issue is because we switched to FIOS, or if it was an update that was recently run. Would appreciate any ideas.

Check the hosts file for entries of sites you cannot access. Also make sure your DNS settings are not overided with some hard coded DNS servers. Also specify what version of Windows you have.

can you access those sites through a proxy? https://www.megaproxy.com/freesurf/

use that link and see if you can access. if you can then Verizon is giving you access. The Web Host probably has an out of date filter.

He can either add your subnet to his network, or you can simply turn off your modem for four hours (there is a lease time on the ip address that doesn't expire for 4 hours) and then turn it back on. I usually tell folks to do this at night when they go to bed. Basically just unplug the modem and don't plug it back in until the morning.

Thank you for the replies. I am on Windows 7, and yes can get to google via the megaproxy site.
