Router Upgrade Issue

I was told by the customer service person that came to my home two years ago that I would get a free upgrade to the newest router yearly if I rented a router from Verizon. So I have been renting for two years. At this point I could have just purchased a router with the money I have paid. The agent I spoke to today said this deal did not exist and did not make any effort to figure out any solutions.

The person who told you that was misinformed. The difference between buying and renting the Verizon router is the warranty. If you buy it from them there is a two year warranty. If you rent then the warranty is unlimited. If you rent they will replace the router no matter what happens. If you buy and the router goes bad in year three, then you would have to pay for a new one.

I did the same. I never got the upgrade, due to there being "no upgrade" lol. Which is the loophole.

If they don't consider they have come out with an upgrade for your area, then you should just purchase the upgrade in another area, and install it, in your area.

I did. I live in Pittsburgh, and LA had the upgrade. I called, found this out, so I then asked would the upgrade still work in Pittsbrugh, and yes, so I went ahead and just purchased, and I still have the router, in case the new city I live in, will ever get Fios, which it doesn't yet.

Also, if you move to a city that is NOT getting Fios soon, then SWITCH to whatever is the best by word of mouth internet company where you live.

One way to find out the "best" in an area, is visit an apt complex, and chat up the neighbors, what do they all agree is best deal and service, and then get THAT internet service.

That is what I did.

I can't help you on what router to buy, I bought the highest end Verizon offered one, that they rent. I still have it, even though Fios is not available in my area. (I'm hoping someday Verizon extends Fios to here, but I switched and the local internet company is as good or better than my Fios speeds in Pittsburgh, and cheaper, less confusing, all local help, so why switch?)
