Verizon Actiontec M1424WR Help

I was trying to bridge to an existing cisco router and after a few attempts, gave up and defaulted the Fios modem/router. It did not reconnect and is "waiting for dhcp lease". I restarted the ONT and still have the same issues, its been over 12 hours with no internet connection. After defaulting, are there settings I have to enter?

First, a point of clarification: FiOS does not use modems. The MI424WR is a router, not a modem.

Since you mention that you were trying to use another router, I'm guessing that you changed settings in the MI424WR. You may have turned off it's DHCP server or disabled NAT mode, for example. You should return all settings to the factory defaults. The best way to do this is to hold down the reset button for 10 or 15 seconds. That way you'll be sure that all settings are reset.

Thanks for the reply. I pushed and held the reset button for over 15 seconds, the modem definitely reset. I also powered down the ONT and waited for over a minute, reconnected the battery and 120v power supply. This was over 12 hours ago and still no internet.

The default DHCP lease time in the Actiontec router is 24 hours. So you will have to be patient.

Powering down the ONT is usually a bad idea. It is supposed to be powered 24/7.

How is the router connected to the ONT? Does this connection type match the way your system was originally installed? If you tried to switch between coax and Ethernet, know that you can't do that without a call to Verizon. Make sure you're using whatever link type was working before you tried to use another router.

As a FiOS user just like you, the only information I have about your setup is what you choose to tell us. If you tell us more, we may be able to figure out what is going on.

Also, you could contact Verizon support through their phone or chat options. They are usually quite good at stuff like this. You may need them to reset their end due to the ONT power outage you created; but that's just a guess. You'll have to contact them to find out.

Are you confusing the router's DHCP server with the Verizon network DHCP server? The router only controls the lease time for local DHCP clients.

I just checked on my router and when I get a new DHCP lease from Verizon it's good for 120 minutes. This is consistent with the information in the DSL reports post. Maybe different FiOS markets have different lease times, but I'd be surprised.

Anyway, I think this user is suffering from something other than a DHCP lease issue.

This is a case of a disappearing thread. The first six or so posts on this thread have evaporated into the Verizon Ether. The OP was asking about how to get Internet back up and running after trying to use a different router.

Not sure why the posts disappeared, but they are gone now. No sense worrying about it. Hopefully the OP got their network working.

Actually the thread hasn't disappeared. Kalin (moderator) issued a move for exposure to Fios forum. The rest of the thread is in the DSL and dialup forum
