Errant Emergency Broadcast Alerts in Southern California

For the past few weeks, residents in West LA/Santa Monica/Etc. have been getting emergency broadcast warnings regarding flooding happening several counties away -- areas over 70-80 miles away, including Riverside, CA & San Bernadino, CA.

Given their frequency & irrelevance, my family has started to ignore them, which is somewhat disconcerting & undermines the point of the system.

For the life of me, I can't find a way to contact anyone at Verizon to report the issue.

Does anyone know where to go?

I've contacted the FCC, but I thought it may be faster if I could find the right person to contact in Verizon as well?

Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect you're asking about mobile phone service. These boards are for Verizon residential service (FiOS, DSL, etc.). If you want to talk to Verizon Wireless, visit their web site:

No, he is talking about VHO3. I am also in VHO3.

VHO3 encompassess ALL of Southern California, as such I don't know if VZ has a way to break out the EAS alert messages for the separate counties. I am in Huntington Beach and I get Flash Flood Warnings for Riverside and San Bernardino counties, which are 30 - 50 miles away. I won't get those floods.

They do break them down smaller than the 2 digit VHO. Not sure how much smaller the areas are. I don't get alerts for all of Florida.

I see the tests for Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties.

Yes, due to this I will be canceling my FIOS service on the 18th of September 2013 after DirecTV install is done.

No one at Verizon would keep my price the same, let alone lower it, six weeks ago when I called and chatted.

Since then it's gotten worse, they interrupted the end of the Little League World Series (twice) and the first NFL game of the year with a weather warning for 60 miles away that will not cause a single dollar of damage or injure a single human being in Riverside. I live in Long Beach.

Yes the government requires that these warnings go out, that's problem #1 and not Verizon's fault.

But problem #2 is the way Verizon is doing it. They don't care, I've seen at least 7 warnings in 6 weeks of ZERO damage.

Warnings don't just scroll, they override all display and interrupt recording.

The only options for "support" I can find from Verizon were:

1. The forums, which is how I found this thread. Maybe if enough people comment on this thread a Verizon employee will post some placating response about how they can't do anything.

2. Complaining to their twitter account: @VerizonSupport. I doubt this is effective but maybe they'll pay attention if someone with a lot of followers complains?

3. Submitting something to their idea exchange, which seems like it's gear more towards technology issues: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-Idea-Exchange/ct-p/ideaexchange, .

I just filled out the FCC online complaint form and hoping that we get another decade of drought until Verizon fixes the problem.
