Utility Box Removal

We have a small telephone utility box on our property, about 2' high and 7" x 7" square. I assume it's there from the original copper line installation and has been deprecated from the installation of Fios fiber a number of years ago. Who can I contact to have this removed, or perhaps have it's contents put into a box below ground level with a removable cover.

I have the same issue--a similar telephone utility box in my back yard that I've been told is owned by Verizon now (originally GT). I tried calling Verizon, but was referred to another company that was completely unhelpful.

Please let me know how I can contact someone at Verizon to see about dealing with this box (since I know I can't do anything with it myself).
