Compatibility of DVR box and HDTV

New Verizon customer. The installer programmed the remote to operate the HDTV (Samsung). After a couple of days I noticed that the remote would not function at all sometimes. If I unplug the DVR box and wait, replug/reboot the remote will usually work again.

Then I realized that as long as the tv is off the remote works. When I turn on the tv the remote stops working.

Any thoughts?

Some TV's emit IR interference that effects remotes. Usually works again after several minutes. Other than trying to shield the IR receiver on the STB, not much works if that is the case.
