Droid Keyboard Bubbles

I've had my droid since february of and now I'm having small problems...one not so small is my physical keyboard. I received my new Droid with one of the standard bubble make not the flat make and now because of the constant use of the physical keyboard some words type twice...and my R,T, and A button are a couple uses away from coming off..

Question is will Verizon replace my droid??? For free??? Or is there any homeway to fix the constant bubbling over of the keyboard

Hey Derrick -
This is a bit of a gray area as far as the warranty terms go. Officially normal wear and tear are not covered by the warranty.
That said, I can't imagine that 7 months of use having the keys come off the keyboard would be considered "normal".
I'd certainly take it in to my local VZW store to see if they could cover it under warranty.
I've had mine since February as well, but probably haven't used my external keyboard more than 50 times, so I'm amazed that your keys are falling off :smileyhappy:

VZW should replace the phone under warranty. It's obviously a defect in the manufacturing and the keyboard should not be lifting up or falling off within such a short period of time.

You have two options. You can take the phone into a corporate Verizon store and try and get it exchanged there in store. If there is no corporate store near you or you don't have the time you can call 1-866-406-5154 and get it exchanged over the phone and VZW will ship you out a "like new" phone.

They will replace it but you will have this problem again and again. I have outlined a repair below After months of dealing with this and a number of replacement phones I have the answer to what is happening. 1. It has nothing to do with keyboard use (I have a friend that uses his keyboard far more than I but does not have the problem 2. It is the amount of time your phone runs hot... (ie... using Navigation, Trapster, Sirius/Xm radio and the like that keep the screen on) 3. The keyboard is not able to handle the heat and bubbles up. 4. At first it will seem like a blessing as the keys are easier to hit but 5. Eventually you will notice that the buttons will have lag and make snapping noises and you will have to push extra times to make contact with the keys... 6. Verizon always acts like it is a surprise that this is happening (or that I'm the only one dealing with it) and they have replaced my phone twice for this problem but now it is out of warranty so I thought I would have to replace the phone and then... I happened upon a replacement keyboard on ebay. I found a pretty easy alternate fix for people with a lifting keypad on their droid2 phones, and I figure this applies to the original droid as well, especially if you're out of warranty like me. I just fixed mine 2 days ago, and its still great, so I figured I'd share:

Rubber Cement and a small paintbrush

That's right, rubber cement!!

Just gently lift the keypad along the bottom edge (under the spacebar), and gently peel the bottom up, so you can slide a ballpoint pen or pencil under the bottom of the keypad. I used a pocketknife to do this. DO NOT completely remove the keypad!!

Using rubber cement, and a small paintbrush (like from a kid's paint kit) carefully spread a THIN layer of rubber cement around on the pink underpad, as well as the underside of the keypad. Keep the pen wedged under the keypad to hold it off the pink bottom for 15 minutes, then remove the pen, and carefully press the keypad back down into place. It will stick!! and it will stay stuck, too!!

If you got some rubber cement on the outside of the phone, just rub off the excess from the surfaces using a cloth, or the edge of your Tshirt.
