Should i get the Apple Extreme? or something else?
i live in a house with a yard and my current wifi only reaches to the patio. i would like to go straight from G to AC so i dont have to upgrade again.
suggestions?
Unless you are not a FiOS TV subscriber and have an Ethernet connection to the ONT, you must use the Verizon router.
If you want a different device to provide WiFi, you are free to use any router or access point you like along with the MI424. Just plug the desired device into the LAN port on the MI424. You can then disable the WiFi in the MI424. Or, you can leave it active if it want it to provide WiFi for devices closer to it.
Good Luck!
i see... thank you.
so would the apple airport extreme be a good choice as an access point, or is it overkill?

I have no personal experience with the Apple routers. I hear good things about them. There are lots of other good routers and access points out there. It really depends on your budget and needs. There are plenty of places on the web to get reviews of routers.
Good luck!
Take note, Wireless AC is a 5Ghz product only, which is going to have significantly less range when going up against 2.4Ghz Wireless N. That is, unless you're in a more extreme situation where 5Ghz somehow manages to get better range (noise, for example).
