DVR records on demand movie instead of scheduled TV show

I have the Motorola QIP DVR. I rented a movie and was watching it. During the middle of the movie, I had a TV show scheduled to record. The TV show was in my recorded list on the DVR. But it did not record the show but instead recorded the movie at the starting time of the TV show. I only had 1 recording setup for that time slot.

Is this normal?

I've never heard of a dvr recording on demand. I didnt even know it was possible.

What version box do you have? qip what number ?

I would try unplugging the box for a few minutes then plugging it back in to reset it to rule out a glitch. If it happens again I'd be swapping boxes out for a new one.
