Set Up Box to Monitor question?

Hello, im failing to get picture on my monitor , and so im looking for help. I currently own Motorola QIP 7100 2 box and I want to connect this to my monitor because my tv broke. The highest resolution my monitor supports is 1600x900. Now my monitor has no hdmi input, but it has dvi, and i bought a hdmi to dvi cable. The box has a hdmi out, so i thought it would be an easy set up. However, everytime i turn the box it says on my monitor "input signal out of range . Change settings to 1600x900-60 GHz" Does anyone know how i can fix this, or is it not possible without a 1920 x 1080 monitor(1080p)?

Just as an extra note, I've already tried changing the display settings from opening the configuration screen by pressing menu while the box was off, and it still the configuration screen did not show, it still said input signal out of range

The STB does not output anthing but 480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i. If your monitor does not support one of these resulutions, it will not display the STB output.
