Optical audio - QIP 7232 2 DVR

Just bought a Samsung HT-5500W BluRayHome Theater and Samsung 6003 series LED TV. All are connected properly with HDMI cables: DVR -> Home Theater -> LED TV

I'm getting a boot up message on the Home Theater display that the source D.In. is recognized. But a message appears to connect a Digital Optical Audio cable. When I connect the cable from the DVR to Home Theater... the message remains... even after reboot of both units and trying several cables.

I see a red light signal from the cable. What am I missing?

Both Verizon tech support and Samsung are unable to resolve the digital audio issue. So I'm not using a digital audio cable. The Samsung Blu Ray Home Theater and Samsung LED TV are connected by HDMI. Both units are HDMI (ARC) capable. So Samsung suggested adjusting TV and Home Theater setup using this feature on both units. The HDMI connection runs from the QIP 7232 DVR to the TV HDMI 1 port. Then TV HDMI 2 (ARC) is connected by HDMI to Home Theater. Seems to work fine to send audio from TV to Home Theater for premium sound.

One last question. I need to use an IR extender to control the QIP 7232-2 box with a universal remote. This requires placing the extender sensor in front of the 7232 box. Where is the IR remote sensor located on the front panel of the 7232?

Are you saying the message won't go away or that you aren't getting audio?

Have you gone into the dvr and set it to surround if its already not on it? menu > settings > audio > audio format > surround

I am not getting audio and the message will not go away.

I did go into the hidden menu on the DVR. I changed the audio setting to pass through. That didn't solve the problem so I changed it to PCM. That still didn't solve the problem.

I'm also checking with Samsung to see if there is a compatibility issue between the Samsung home theater and the DVR .

To me it sounds like an issue with the receiver since you are getting a stuck message. You are getting a signal from the dvr and the settings are correct so I highly doubt its the dvr. Hopefully Samsung support will be able to help.

The ir sensor is right next to the clock/display on the bottom right. If you need to see how big it is shine a bright flashlight on it you can see it very well.
