Cisco 435 dvr problems recording and deleting recorded files

A few weeks ago my dvr, a cisco 435, rebooted itself. Any programs that I recorded on my external drive before that time do not delete properly. It appears that the the file space on the external is freed up but the names of the programs remain on the dvr recorded programs list (when I select them it gives me a message saying that the program was deleted (and if I exit then the dvr will update, which it doesn't)).

I also have problems recording, very occasionally (like today). The DVR will say that it is recording but when I go to watch the program (while it is recording) it just takes me to the same channel but at the current time. For example, I record golf programs, I let them record for about an hour and then start watching (to avoid the ads and commentary that is boring). I tried that today and it just kept taking me to the current time on the same station. I waited until the program fully recorded (checked the properties of the recording ... 3 hrs, channel, etc ... and everything was ok), and again tried to watch the program. It again just took me to the channel at the current time (which was about 1hr after the program was supposed to have recorded). This is the second time that this has happened.

Anyone got any solutions for either of these issues?

To fix recorded program problems press menu, then go to CUSTOMER SUPPORT, then IN HOME AGENT, then SET TOP BOX AUTO CORRECTION. Please let us know if further assistance is required.

I tried your suggestion, the names of the deleted programs still show up on the dvr.

Any further suggestions?

I followed the link provided and it says that the message was deleted.

I didn't receive any emails from verizon about this problem.

Could you provide me with instructions? (As the issue has re-occurred today).

Hello,

i'm having this same issue with the Cisco 435 multi room w/ external hard drive. I also tried the In Home agent fix - this did not resolve the issue either. I still have recordings I can't delete. How do I fix this?

I'm having the same problem. Delete a show that was recorded to either my internal or external hard drives but the title remains. When you click on the title it says the show has already been deleted but its always there. I've even done a reformat and they still remain. Does anybody have anything further?

Wow, a reformat. You really are desperate to get rid of them. I've been listening to these reports and they seem to all have two things in common:

the Cisco 435
an external hard drive

My suspicion is that there is a bug in how the 435 handles its file system after an external hard drive is attached. If there really is a solution to it, it has yet to be publicly posted. I will drop two links below. The first one is a link to a possible solution that seems to have worked for some people. Thanks for the links, After a long call with a Verizon tech, who was pretty competent, fixed the problem for now. This fix requires that you have another DVR and you will have to reformat. But it will remove everything that reformatting from the DVR menu wouldn't. After ejecting from the settings screen, connect the external to another DVR, once the DVR recognizes the HDD go to DVR>Settings>External Hard Drive>Format. This will erase all the show titles on the external that reformatting wouldn't. Then the rep did two things to the old DVR. First, she did a Reload to the box, then did a refresh. Refresh can't be done until the Reload has finished. I booted up the box, with the external still hooked up to my other DVR. Strangely, all the shows that wouldn't delete off the external were on the internal, very strange, but, when I deleted them this time, they went away for good!!!! I'm thinking the reason the shows are not being deleted from the external is because they are actually on the internal but for some reason are showing the external icon next to the title. Brought the external back to the original DVR, hooked it up and may have had to format it again to the old DVR since it was linked to my second DVR for the fix. That is it, everything is as new. Wasn't able to try the fixes you sent me, didn't see your links until after it was fixed, hope this helps other people! Maybe the links in the message above will work if someone doesn't have two DVR's to use.

Update:

There is no need to call Verizon, to get rid of the shows that won't delete, follow these steps. The problem is for some reason the shows were not recorded on the External, the DVR put them on the internal. So when you go to delete them, the dvr is looking for them on the External but they are not there. Go to DVR settings and eject the external HDD from the DVR. Then when you go to the DVR you will just have the shows that you tried to delete but wouldn't. Then go to DVR-Auto fix MRDVR issues, and choose Auto-Correct My STB/DVR, check mark the DVR that needs to be fixed and and let the home agent send the refresh signal to the box. It will reboot, when its finished, it will allow you to delete the titles off the DVR. You can then reconnect the External.

More info: found out why the Cisco DVR stops recording on the External, when you delete a program, it stays in the Recently Deleted section. The software does not communicate between the DVR and external HDD. So the external doesn't tell the DVR there is room, the DVR thinks everything you deleted is still on there, you have to go into the recently deleted section and delete the show from there as well, a big pain in the **bleep**. Cisco boxes are garbage.
