stb issues

Need help. I have fios internet/phone/tv with one hdtv with dvr and one standard tv.

I was away for a couple of weeks and the power had obviously gone out since stove and microwave clocks were blinking. The dvr stb clock was still on and that tv was fine.

The standard stb on the other tv however wasn't working and after no resolution with tech support, they sent me a new stb (Motorola QIP2500-3).

The new stb will not reboot either. I'm getting "out of band cable signal not detected". I've gone through all the standard unplug/replugs with router, tv, stb and tried another coax cable to no avail. The BBU seems fine with a constant green light. Since the hd stb, internet and phone work fine, I'm guessing the problem is in the splitter. It's a PDI 3wms-5; 5-1000MHz; 3.5dB/7.5dB/7.5dB.

FInally my question. Would power outages affect the splitter? We seem to have short ones often here. Also, where should I buy a new one and what type?

I dont know where you get your info, but this is not true on ALL surge protectors. I use one and my signal is just as good as if I wasn't using one and there are 0 issues with anything.

I believe PJL is correct. If yours works I think you are lucky. Not all coax surge protectors will pass the required frequencies (they are made for cable systems, not FiOS, same as many splitters). I asked a Verizon tech about using a coax surge protector connection when he was at my house, he specifically said I absolutely should not due to interference with the frequencies FiOS uses.

I don't see what value there would be to having the coax going through a surge protector anyway. If you have the STBs on surge protectors, and the ONT BBU has its own surge protector, what surge is there going to ever be on the coax?

Your issue sure sounds like a splitter issue to me.

You can get them on the fios accessory page here https://teleproducts.verizon.com/fios/index.cfm/eh/DisplayProducts or you can get them at Radio Shack, ebay, amazon, etc. as well.

Since you have a lot of surges, you might want to consider a surge protector with coaxial protection on it if you don't already have one. Just make sure its a good one so it doesnt effect your signal and video quality.
