Fios - very poor download speeds

I have a 15/5 Fios plan. The last several nights I have been getting download speeds hovering between 1 and 2 (1.1 and 1.6 on my two latest speedtests). Upload speeds are fine (5.6 and 6.2). It is difficult to do even simple things like read/send e-mail, and next to impossible to stream anything from Netflix.

Can this please be resolved - I receive repeated ads to get increased speeds for just $10 more per month, but I would do just fine if only I could get the performance I was paying for.

I am in the Amherst, NY area.

Are you in apartment or other multi dwelling.

Are you doing your testing wireless or wired. Wireless you may want to try changing your routers CHANNEL.

What type computer and operating system. Windows XP computers should run verizon's optimizer. http://my.verizon.com/services/speedoptimizer/FIOS/

Windows vista, 7, and 8 can be optimized as well, but usually do better with windows own optimizer.

What router are you using?

Are you testing wireless or wired?

Are you testing duing peak times or off peak?

Have you tried changing the channels on the router? 1, 6, 11? If not a free program called inSSIDer can help determain what the best channel for you may be.
