FIOS TV Set-Top Boxes and the guide

So I have a few general questions..

1.) What are all the models of STBs (including cable cards, adapters, etc) that are capable of receiving FIOS TV?

2.) As I understand it, TVs with adapters and cable cards do not get the interactive media guide. Also, my guess is that the guide is received from the internet so your STB has to have the capability to connect to the internet. My question is whether it is possible to have a internet capable STB and still get no interactive media guide (IMG)? If so, what are some of the reasons why a person wouldn't get the guide even though they have a enabled STB (ex. QIP7100)?

My goal is to just understand why certain STB are IMG capable and why others aren't. Also, if they are capable why do some still not get the guide? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Here is the list and manuals for all of the fios dvr's/stb's.

All boxes do get the guide as the information is feed from the router.......which is why Verizon requires a router for its service regardless if you have internet or not. You dont need internet to get the guide. Just a fios router so Verizon can feed the information to the dvrs/stbs. If someone has one of the boxes and isnt getting the guide then their router is either unplugged or there is an issue with Verizon.

You can use non Verizon boxes such as Tivo, but of course you loose VOD and the fios guide because there's no way for Verizon to upload those features onto the Tivo boxes.

Same goes for the adapters. There's no hard drive to upload the information to. They connect via qam rather then ip.

Some additions to the commments above:

(1) ------> ....and you will need to rent a cable card from Verizon to use other STBs or alternatives like PC tuner cards.

(2) ------> ...all Verizon STBs connect via QAM and IP, but the DCT-700 digital adapter only uses QAM. QAM is how the video signal is delivered; IP is how guide data and Video on Demand are delivered to the other models.

Thank you Roaddog and PJL for the responses. This definitely helps. So from what I gather...

- you need a router (not internet) to receive the interactive guide for fios tv.

- adapters are not capable of displaying the guides.

Follow up questions:

1.) Is it impossible to receive the guide on your STB if you do not have the router?...meaning it is not possible to upload guide data to the STB via the ONT box directly?

2.) What about these boxes below...are they capable of receiving the guide and VOD?

2) If you look at the link provide in an earlier post you will note that Verizon does not use these models with the exception of the QIP2500 which does have a gide. The other models are not relevant.

If you do not have a router then yes it is impossible to receive the guide or vod. It wont come in from the ont as the ont just provides the signal.
