Just solved an annoying EF01 error on a Motorola 7232 DVR STB. Thought I'd post so others ( including Verizon's own tech support) would know a possible trouble shooting solution! Try another HDMI cable. The issue is with Motorola and your TV not being able to "handshake". Try as many different HDMI cables that you have. I had two that were incapable of eliminiating the EF01 error, but when I tried a 3rd cable it resolved the issue.
EF01 = settop was not able to get EDID from the connected HDMI TV. This indicates an HDMI bus reading / interop issue.
DVR STB would work fine in all other rooms I tried as well as other non dvr stb's working in the room with EF01 error! I finally tried some new HDMI cables I had in a drawer and problem solved!
Verizon phone tech was useless and had no clue as to what the EF01 message meant! NOW YOU KNOW!!
