cable modem/wireless router

I just recently purchased an Apple AirPort Time Capsule which is also a wireless router. I have it connected to my Verizon router. everything works great! I'm getting much better range and data transfer speeds from the Time Capsule. My question is this: Now that I don't really need the wireless protion of the Verizon cable modem/router & wireless combo I should be able to just used a cable modem, which cable modems are compatible with Verizon? I want to make sure before I buy one I get the right one that will work.

No cable modem is compatible with fios.

You don't need a modem with FIOS, you can just get rid of the VZ router and replace it with your own (you call Verizon to get them to change your connection from COAX, the same thing that goes to your tv, to ethernet from your ONT) but will lose video on demand on your tv and caller id on tv. If you want those to stay you can keep the VZ box and play with configurations listed here.

Think you should actually say that without the router you'd lose fios tv completely (it has to be in the network somewhere to provide coax signals), though possibly you could connect a coax cable from the ont directly to 1 tv.

Without a router, you would lose IMG, VOD, widgets and other interactive functionality, but the QAM signal to any TV/STBs would still be present.
