I have seen a lot of info around saying that FIOS is no longer expanding but concentrating on getting more people in their current areas. Is this just a result of the capital costs of expanding the FTTH network? It seems like demand is high in areas that don't have the service. It would seem to be in Verizon's interest to continue to expand the service area so as to get more subscribers.
Is there any way I can pressure my local officials to get in contact with Verizon and get service expanded into my town faster?
It seems that a few years ago a couple of large car dealerships went in to the town next door to where I live (~ 5 min down the road from me) and around that same time it seemed that FOIS magically appeared in that town - at least in a limited capacity. I remember seeing a "pop-up" kiosk in that area giving people information on getting service.
It just frustrates me to no end that I'm stuck with the same measly 3M service that I've had for the past 8 years. I'm seriously considering switching to Charter for my internet service, but I'm worried about it's reliability and having to contend with my neighbors for bandwidth.
I'm told that I'm near enough to the DSL substation to support a higher speed connection than 3M, but that Verizon doesn't support a higher level of service. Is there any way that this can be looked into beyond the FIOS expansion question? It'd be nice if I could get a higher DSL speed due to being closer to the substation....
